Chrisjh
Just wondering what is the best Mini Camcorder with wifi to fit on Railway wagons to go round the layout? I have tried the Polaroid Cube + but it doesn't work because I can't get it to charge. Many thanks, all the best, stay safe. Best, Chris
PenrithBeacon
I stopped using a specialist video camera years ago, when I realised that the video modes of most digital cameras were as good if not better than them and they quite often had better lenses and sensors. Just look at the manufacturers catalogues and decide. I went for Panasonic but that is my choice, there are lots to choose from. Cheers

corax67
One of the guys in church has bought one of these: https://uk.banggood.com/1080P-HD-Mini-Wireless-WIFI-IP-Camera-DVR-Night-Vision-Home-Security-p-1627751.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN and for the money it’s really impressive - we are planning to use it on a number of exhibition layouts we run in the hopes of staging a virtual charity exhibition late this year. Karl Wow that looks like a cheap fun toy to play with, also available via eBay for 20 quid for those who don't want use bangood:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-IP-Camera-DVR-Wireless-WiFi-HD-1080P-Hidden-Home-Security-Night-Vision-UK/303234756657? RMweb Gold Shedman5 Posted June 15, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2020 Will be interested to hear your thoughts after giving it a go, quite tempted to get one so a user review would be welcome!

Chrisjh
Just waiting for my camera to arrive from Banggood, thanks again Karl. Just wondering if the circular part of the camera as well as the base is magnetic? Also as I want to film in front of the train just wondering what the best wagon is to place it on? Many thanks, Chris
Chrisjh
I am afraid I have Given up on the Banggood camera it is very hit and miss. Instead I have now purchased a Go Pro Hero Session 5 with Wifi. It seems to be comparatively easy compared to the Polaroid Cube + (which didn't charge) and the Banggood Mini Camcorder which is too complicated and really difficult to connect. I will upload some video's to You Tube in the next few days using the Go Pro. Thanks for all your help Karl much appreciated. SRman
I have a Panasonic HX-A1 camera, which fits easily within the British loading gauge in OO. It may not have the highest resolution, but it is wirelessly controllable from a mobile phone, uses micro-SD card memory, and connects directly to a computer through a USB cable for direct transfers of data and/or charging. RMweb Premium spamcan61 Posted June 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 27, 2020 I bought the cheapo one off eBay and it works fine within its limits (1080p25) but for sure it's not very user friendly, I downloaded the Android app on to my 'burner' phone and eventually worked out how it worked but it's a bit of a faff. In terms of size it's probably just about OK for OO loading gauge if you have an old wagon to modify. Here it is just plonked on the end of a Bachmann wagon.
Chrisjh
Many thanks everyone I am hoping that with Go Pro Hero Session 5 we can upload and view in 4K. Although I am really confused as to the SD Card we should be using any thoughts would be much appreciated. All the best, Chris
Chrisjh
As requested I have shot a video using my Go Pro Hero Session 5 on my high level layout York, this should be in 4 K. As a complete novice to photography I am amazed at how easy it was to create a 4K Video. I think this is the best mini camcorder, I gave up on the Bang good camcorder as it was too complicated to operate especially in Chinese. From the revious vid, the camera setup appears to work well. One thing I found with mine is that it will exaggerate any wobbly wheels on the camera wagon. My first one was a fairly old Bachmann bogie bolster wagon, and I had to swap quite a few wheels and axles around to get it to run wobble-free. The current camera wagon is a Hatton's Warwell, which runs very smoothly. I sometimes use a couple of lowfits as spacer wagons when filming behind the locomotive, but the camera even highlights their wobbly wheels too, although that does not affect the actual video. It is a great way to view ones own layout, but be warned, if there are any dodgy bits the eye skips over, the camera will show them up! My very first run showed up a section of retaining wall I had dislodged and not even noticed.

If you replace 'studio' with 'www' and remove the /edit/basics from the end of the URL it should work https://www.youtube.com/video/NTTOPkjCQ0s worked for me, but the URL should more correctly be I agree that it looks good, but I don't want to spend that much on a camera.

Chrisjh
Thanks David I was in two minds at first I bought the Polaroid Cube + but it didnt charge then I purchased a Banggood Camera which I couldnt understand. So I opted for the Hero Session 5, which I am very impressed with. A lot of different possibilities which I had never thought of previously. Its such a shame that no one produces a cheaper compact mini camcorder now, I assume the reasons above explain why.
