Georgeconna
Hi Lads, Anyone use this stuff?, I tried a few times now to cover a few Models but this Matt Varnish PV82 for me leaves an light grey dusting over a model, Over Black very patchy and white grey when dry. possibly the worst Varnish I have ever come across Any one else have a similar problem
RMweb Gold 57xx Posted June 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 18, 2020 I have a large tin of it but not tried it yet. Be interested to hear other's thoughts on it. If I get a moment, I'll try and run some through the airbrush onto a test wagon.
JohnC
I have used this but, like yourself, was not very impressed. The finish I now use on my modern image re-sprays is semi-gloss varnish from Rainbow Railways. A more typical look for the modern image locos I believe. Testers Dullcoat has been mentioned as a good alternative.
Georgeconna
Humbrol is just as bad as Phoenix. I use Alclad Kear cote not but that stays tacky for ages and not suitable for RC Boats.

Testors Dullcote is excellent - but don't do as I did and apply a heavy coat on a humid day! The results suggested that the stock in question had spent some time in a cement works! A light, mist coat in conditions that promote quick drying will produce a superb finish. Regards, John Isherwood.
rob D2
Funny enough, I also have a tin of this waiting call to action ! I actually like humbrol, if you get a good can. I have three spray cans of testers doing nothing , as I brought in bulk, but it’s TOO flat for me , like a black hole for paint jobs
RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2020 Army painter to a decent matt varnish and Halfords do a clear matt lacquer. Both spray cans.
