RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 18, 2020 I am wanting a hipped ridge and furrow canopy (Skipton-style) on an island platform which is 85mm wide. Do I need a double row of columns to support the canopy or will a single row do? Thanks.
John-Miles
It would be very unstable if it was cantilevered from a single column. Also the column would be subjected to a lot of bending moments which if you are thinking of cast iron would probably lead to failure of the columns.
Grovenor
Assuming 4 mm scale, seems very wide for a single row of pillars, I would go for two rows, 6 ft in from each platform edge
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 18, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 18, 2020 Thanks, gents it's going to cost me a lot more than I was bargaining for!!
Wheatley
This is Marple - wrong style of canopy but I would expect the layout of the supporting structure to be similar: https://i2-prod.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/incoming/article9563611.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/JS67154253.jpg Edited June 18, 2020 by Wheatley
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 18, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 18, 2020 Thanks for that @Wheatley that's what I wanted it to look like however, pricing up the cost of just the columns from York Modelmakers is putting me off.
