I am wanting a hipped ridge and furrow canopy (Skipton-style) on an island platform which is 85mm wide. Do I need a double row of columns to support the canopy or will a single row do? Thanks.

It would be very unstable if it was cantilevered from a single column. Also the column would be subjected to a lot of bending moments which if you are thinking of cast iron would probably lead to failure of the columns.

Assuming 4 mm scale, seems very wide for a single row of pillars, I would go for two rows, 6 ft in from each platform edge

Thanks, gents it's going to cost me a lot more than I was bargaining for!!

Thanks for that @Wheatley that's what I wanted it to look like however, pricing up the cost of just the columns from York Modelmakers is putting me off.
