RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted April 11, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 11, 2021 I get very annoyed at the '...doesn't even look like a (insert subject matter)' comments - not just the one above but in general where it is seen. It does. It does not look like a 20, or a 31, or a Deltic, it looks like a 25. It may not be the finest representation, but it looks like the prototype it is intended to represent. In the meantime, I am thoroughly enjoying seeing this representation of the area I also model (badly), with Panniers that look like Panniers. Please keep it coming. 10 2
RMweb Gold jollysmart Posted April 11, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2021 I have watched the saga about the class 25 unfold and I'm frankly amazed, I can't imagine what sort of pleasure someone gets from exhibiting their supposed moral superiority over what is a very nice piece of work by another modeller. I always thought that discretion was the better part of valour and best to keep your thoughts to yourself if they are likely to upset/annoy someone else just to boost your own fragile ego. I do wonder what drives someone to do that, do they wake in the morning determined to spoil someones day? Anyway, I have watched this layout grow and develop which has proved inspirational and I look forward to seeing the next steps. The class 25s both look excellent to me and the Bachmann mechanism is a very smooth and effective unit certainly one of my best and it has travelled a long way in its life. I just want to say thanks to Re6/6 and the good Captain for showing their excellent work, it is top drawer. 9 7

Gordon A
Is there any chance we can get back on to the excellent model of Parkend Marsh Sidings? 1 6
RMweb Premium Bogie Posted April 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 12, 2021 My comment was very much tongue in cheek - as per the Monty Python Restaurant Sketch. Nothing wrong with the grass, the Class 25 or the whole layout as far as I am concerned.

Progress has been rather slow lately but now that the warmer weather is with us (well better than it was in the depths of winter in the garden shed!), efforts will be revitalized! The next task will be to make new beech trees for the headshunt area as the ones used at the moment (ex Balcombe) are incorrect and temporary. The scenics are only in their first stage and need to be expanded. Part of the connection to the station will be the next to be built. This is a lovely scene and looking forward to seeing it being recreated. I’ve really enjoyed following this thread - this layout is very much up my overgrown dishevelled street! RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 12, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) Hello Jay, Much deliberation right now! The most likely it will be up to The Fountain Inn with the buildings providing the necessary scenic break into the fiddle yard. In the long term there are crazy thoughts about building Parkend Station but I now probably won't have enough years left on this good earth what with all the work needed to complete Balcombe! 'Planning too many future projects' is a condition that I suffer from! Edited April 12, 2021 by Re6/6 5
Gordon A
Have you considered making your layout an L or T shape with the station platform / buildings at the end and the off scene to the right?

Rob Thinking back to the mid-1970s, I recall a strange cone-shaped structure in a back garden alongside the single siding at Marsh Wharf? I later heard that it turned out to be a very rare vintage aircraft component - reused as a 'shed'? Apparently it was recovered for preservation? I can find no record of it online.

Popular Post Bulwell Hall
On our first day of freedom I took a trip over to the Forest. I had to visit somebody but once finished I called into Parkend for the first time in well over a year. Sadly no trains were running and I was also a little surprised to see this Parkend Colliery wagon on display on a reinstated section of the Marsh sidings. It's not a 'pukka' coal wagon and looks to be of SECR origin but it certainly makes an impact and most definitely commemorates the former industry of the area. The route of the now removed siding is across what is now a car park, across the Coleford road and in front of the cottages where the cars are parked. Even though the sidings are now long gone the place is still well worth visiting. Gerry Edited April 12, 2021 by Bulwell Hall 22

bazzer42
Shame you couldn't have made it Saturday, we had an 08, an 03 and a class14 acting in a scene for a future casualty episode. To those in the know it won't appear prototypical but to average Joe it will be fine. I liked the class 25 too. Average Derek

bazzer42
Didn't hear any steam up in Bream and may have ruined the Liverton Quarry disaster! A couple of phone shots as crossed the footbridge. Fountain Inn was acting as changing rooms. Living 2 miles away this thread is one to follow. I'll stop hijacking.
