Didn't hear any steam up in Bream and may have ruined the Liverton Quarry disaster!  A couple of phone shots as crossed the footbridge.  Fountain Inn was acting as changing rooms.

Living 2 miles away this thread is one to follow.  I'll stop hijacking.

Has something hideous happened to the crossing gate? And a body on the line!? :o

As previously mentioned, the trees are incorrect and temporary. There certainly weren't any Italian Poplars in the Forest to the best of our knowledge. More suited to to Mediterranean climes!

It's funny to think of the number of times a much younger me climbed those steps! :locomotive:

On our first day of freedom I took a trip over to the Forest.  I had to visit somebody but once finished I called into Parkend for the first time in well over a year.  Sadly no trains were running and I was also a little surprised to see this Parkend Colliery wagon on display on a reinstated section of the Marsh sidings.  It's not a 'pukka' coal wagon and looks to be of SECR origin but it certainly makes an impact and most definitely commemorates the former industry of the area.   The route of the now removed siding is across what is now a car park, across the Coleford road and in front of the cottages where the cars are parked.  Even though the sidings are now long gone the place is still well worth visiting.

Beat me to it!! We had a day out round the Forest today, and I was amazed to see this short extension to the wharf siding, with wagon in place!!

Mindyou I hadn't kept up with this thread for a few days, and have just had to wade through the "it looks nothing like a 25" unpleasantness. :(

Good question Gordon. I'll investigate!

The map in the OP Smith book. shows a date of 1880 and in the next map dated 1920 all has gone. I've never seen any pictures of it.

Was this iron plateway rather than conventional narrow gauge (edge rail)? Many years ago I recall following stone sleeper blocks away from and above Marsh Wharf. Eventually I came across a working Free Mine.
