RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted June 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2020 Hi, I wondered if anyone could tell me the following dimensions in respect of the four wheel chassis that Hornby use under a range of Railroad range locos (e.g. Smokey Joe, Barclay diesel, etc): Overall length over frames wheelbase wheel diameter Many thanks in advance for this. Regards, Alex.
Il Grifone
It first appeared under the GWR 101 and is AFAIK reasonably accurate for this, but I don't have mine to hand so can't measure it. The Hornby model represents the locomotive after rebuilding to coal burning. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_101_Class
34theletterbetweenB&D
Length over frames may well vary. It's a cast piece so you can saw chunks off. The length over the bufferbeam faces of the smokey Joe/ CR pug is 96mm. Wheelbase 33mm Wheel diameter 16mm
RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted June 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2020 Hi folks, Thanks for those responses. Those dimensions are exactly what I was looking for; from memory I knew where the body of the pug went wrong but don't currently own one to check below the footplate. In terms of the chassis origins under GWR 101, I believe that's accurate in terms of dimensions. Someone online I have seen a weight diagram for the loco, and I am sure the sizes matched the model. I seem to remember that it's in Haresnape's book on Churchward locos too. Again, thanks. Regards, Alex.
Il Grifone
The wheelbase should be 9' and the wheel diameter 3' 8". The model is 8' 3" and 4' 0", but that is near enough for a toy.
