Whatever happened to the Hornby toy shop/demonstrator layouts?

Good evening everyone,

My local model shop Sawyer Models has one of these in their shop window. Large red case with Hornby branding and perspex sides. It is no longer coin operated and has been converted to DCC operation us the Hornby Elite controller. Their Facebook group page has the layout as the header picture.

Hope this helps.

All the best

Charles

The last one I saw was in Frizinghall Models before they moved premises a couple of years ago. You could drop them an email.

It's still there.

When you go into their new premises once you have gone up the stairs turn right and it is on the right hand side.

It's currently non operational (or at least the last time I paid it any attention). I used to love it as a kid.

On a related note there also used to be a coin operated layout at my local Morrisons supermarket which was an oval of track with some nicely done scenery. This was a circle of track with either one of Hornbys various brightly coloured 0-4-0s or one of the Thomas Range tank engines with a couple of wagons.
