Hi Peter,

Yes that spot is good theres a footpath follwing the line for a while i didn't walk down it but viewed it from the bridge last summer while staying in conway and fotting blue 57's + a kettle and 57601 on the rear doing the llandudno line :)

Heres a fot of a dmu taken of the bridge last summer the path is just out of sight to the left of the pic reckon the tractor was took on that rubble area.

Hi Peter,

Luv the duff i've done 2 the same as 401 & 402 both with the gateshead plaques above the numbers courtesy of precision labels and decals smile.gif was thinking looking at those pics of the crompton and beasty 37503 it may be worth both of us modelling these trains think of all those ex works loco's with a crompton or duff tucked in behind as they thrash up the coast on test cool.gif the only prob is i'm addicted to weathering as you know so they prob wouldn't stay clean for long lol.

Cheers, Jon.

Hi Jon,

The Gateshead plaques do look good, I was quite suprised to see how many duffs had them. I have done a 37/5 in ex works to run with a 33 but they don't run well together so I might try a 47. I do have a 56 to do but I am not happy with how it runs, it seems to wobble about a bit.

I am sure I have seen some of your locos fairly clean, you could get away with a bit of dirt.biggrin.gif

Just noticed your last post thanks for the link.wink.gif

Hi Peter,

Love the latest shots of the 47. The weathering looks just right to me. Spot on.

Incidentally, the lights you asked about on Waverley West are Viessmann (Viessman no. 6364). Sorry for the delayed response. I've been a bit busy recently.

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hi Dave,

No worries, I had forgotten about that post, Thanks.

Cheers, Jon.

Hi Jon,

I noticed a clean 37426 on your thread, that could be the go. During the sector period Crewe did a few Res 47s and I am sure Iv'e seen a pic of a triple grey 56 on test.

Hi Peter,

Yes very true matey, but 426 would of been nameless as she did the test train :( were as my model has the names already applied! On the 90's test trains yes there were tons of loco's up there especially res 47's i'm sure there were a pair of loadhaul grids too aswell as transrail loco's of all classes, now then wat coaching stock was used on these trains? Am i write in saying it was parcels vans as i remember seeing those behind ex works loco's in rail mag, shame they didn't use the regi rail stock or we'd of all had some monster traction up the coast! ;) even thou many loco's dropped on these workings especially in 1999 when they pulled all the 37/4's of these workings due to a fault on 1 which ment anything could turn up and id did well 37 wise anyway from 37/0's rite thru to 37/8's good times indeed B)

Cheers, Jon.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for posting the pics, I have a book on 33s which has your pic of 33021 but in colour, it will come in handy for reference when I do my station roof.biggrin.gif Your pic of 37503 is taken from a good spot, Iv'e not seen a pic from there before.

Cheers Peter,

There was just a lawn there at one time but I think there is a cycle path there now. If so, then one can also expect a 10 foot electrified fence as well!

Hi Jon,

Forgot about the no name bit, rolleyes.gif d'oh My last visit to North Wales was shortly before moving to Oz in 95 I managed to get a few pics of 37/4s on passsenger and a regi rail class 31 working to Bangor most of the stock was mk2s and mk1s in regi rail liv though I think there were some ex NSE coaches with the red line painted out, have you thought of doing that? I think it was the early 90s when they did a coal sector day between Crewe and Llandudno you could have pairs of 56s 37s 20s and I think they had a 60 running, all pulling your stock, no need to worry about vans for a test train then.

I would hate to think how many photo spots have been ruined by high fences and overgrowing trees.

Hi Peter,

Yes i was there for the coal day specials and transrail day aswell as many others too :) there is a big choice of loco's for the coast and i luv the welsh coast so must model these trains! I have just bought some network mk2 coaches for conversion to regi rails but the prob is after looking at pics i don't think these were the 1's bud? they look more like the ex trans pennine coaches than the networkers with painted out red lines! :( so a full re-spray of each needed i think unless anyone knows different? Must admit these special working trains had load 10 too 12 on thats a lot of mk2's to re-spray and i'm not a fan of spraying coaches up find them a bit orkward and much prefer loco's!

Should have some sort of regi rail stock in time for hornbys 31 at christmas thou ;)

Cheers, Jon.

Right at the end of your chosen period, 22nd February 1989, showing the variety at Llandudno Junction/Llanboune Junction!

47464 departing for Crewe.

47110 on Amlwch Tanks.

LMS coach in Departmental use together with crane.

47228 on Speedlink including more tanks from Amlwch.

Another 47 on Sulphur empties to Mostyn Dock.

Class 31 running round its Nuclear Flask train probably from Wylfa. The Trawsfynedd train would arrive mid-afternoon and the two would go forward as one train around teatime...

post-6680-127376931587.jpg

And in case you feel tempted to build something unusual, the GER Inspection Saloon with 31 145...

Larry, I don't mean to be a smarty-pants but the overview shot above can't possibly show 47464 if the photo dates from 1989; that particular loco was withdrawn in September 1986 following a collision at Elgin. :icon_redface: Sorry!

A prime example of the problem I have with numbers. It was 47646....Just checked this out in my photo diary. 47186 was on sand empties, not sulphur. 47110 was on the14.20 Junction Speedlink. The 31 was 31217.

Cheers,

Larry

Hi Jon,

I have had a look through some books and some of my slides, I think early on in the 90s there were more ex NSE coaches about mixed in with the regi rail coaches but later on there were more painted in the regi rail colours. One pic taken on the coal sector day in 91 shows a rake with a few blue grey mk2 coaches mixed in. you can always add a few mk1 too.biggrin.gif

More great pics Larry,

I like the first one, cool.gif looks like plenty going on. Do you have any taken from that bridge in the 1986- 87 time frame.biggrin.gif The sand train sounds interesting, did it always run with those HKV hoppers? It could be a good train to model.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all,

It has been a while since my last update so thought I would show you what I have been up to, which really isn't that much but better than nothing.

The UK readers enjoying the nice weather might like to know it has been cold and wet here this week and we have had the fire going. Showers forcast for the weekend to.biggrin.gif

Anyway here are a few pics, I have been working on a few cars, the Cortina has been given a way past its best look and the Escort has had the rear spoiler removed along with some bodywork to make it a standard MK3 I have lowered it and turned the tyres down a bit, I was going to use some Talors models wheels but they looked a bit small, so I have left the XR3i wheels on as I think plenty of boy racers would have done this. I have also added some Peco buffer stops on the extension which I have altered by using some code 75 rail, similar to Pete Harvey. 47106 is getting there, chassis is done and body needs numbers and windows refitted.

Cheers Peter.

Nice work. The Cortina resembles the bomb I used to drive around the far south-western tip of Cornwall for years. In the days when the right person would give you an MoT in exchange for a pint or two

Hi Bro, liking the cars ..the Cortina looks a beast...wheres the Dak Dak? biggrin.gif

Hi mate,

Dak Dak hasn't landed yet. I ordered a Capri as well, thought I might do it as Moods beast we had some good trips in that.biggrin.gif

Peter the cars look cool :) I'll steal the idea of turning down the tyres and lowering them slighly for my XR3i.

I found that the look was improved by painting the black around the windows to match the prototype as the model as it comes doesn't extend far enough. Did the base models have a black stripe along the bottom of the body too? This is on the XR3is as I added it to mine :)
