Sorry Peter - but Dave's message was too good to resist...

Skirl of the Bagpipes, 1996!

Good one that, James. Prototype for everything and all that. Don't happen to have a shot of Kestrel on a railtour at Waverley do you? Anytime during the 80s, I'm not fussy. wink.gif

Sorry Peter, you know me, I can't let a good hijack go!

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Peter,

Glad your back up and running again on here - It would be nice to see some Scottish stock on your layout - perhaps you could run test trains from Crewe or have locos piloting normal trains to run them in - not that you need any excuse to run what ever you like! Look forward to seeing some more shots from your running day perhaps?

Mark

Hi Guys,

Hijacking is fine by me,biggrin.gif though I think Dave has it down to a fine art.laugh.gif wink.gif

As for Kestrel I think it's the best of the prototypes, and the livery looked great, so I don't blame anyone for buying one, the model I saw last year really looked good and captured the look of the real thing very well.

Thanks for the link James, I had left the UK buy 1996 but would have loved to have done that railtour.sad.gif I think it was about 96 when a Pusher and TC set went to Scotland, it was used for filming Mission Impossible I think.

This is nearer your time period Dave. On the 25.10.86 I travelled on the Eden Serpent Railtour to Carlisle, not quite Scotland but could have been extended to Waverley.biggrin.gif

Power for the day was 33202 & 33207, two Hellfire Beasts.cool.gif One problem was that the LMR had decided Carlisle had no spare platform, so the plan was to go via the Upperby curve and come straight back.ohmy.gif Thing is while waiting at Upperby yard to come back 37259 was attached to the rear of the train and pulled us back into Carlisle station. So we did get a pair to Carlilse in the end, and I do have a few very dark pics of the Cromptons and 37 at Carlisle. Oh happy days.

Hi Mark, I will try and take some pics on the running day, who knows what will turn up.

Cheers Peter,

Gutted I'm not able to make it to the running day!

Hope you have a great time and don't end up with to many locos with sound!!!

Hi Gary,

Thats a shame, I will have to do another one later in the year. If SRman comes down I think their is a good chance of at least a few.biggrin.gif

Here are a few pics from yesterday, about 20 people turned up and the layout ran quite well even the new section.ohmy.gif

SRman bought a number of locos with sound which he changed so that they could run on my old DC set up, I managed to get a pic of his 33/1 and 24 which sound great and the CIG looks good too. SRman also rethinged my 25095 so I now have a sound loco of my own.biggrin.gif biggrin.gif A Wren Sir Nigel kettle thing also showed up along with a friends kit built class 17 and 37 with ploughs each end.cool.gif

Those photos have come out well, Pete. It was a very enjoyable meeting yesterday. Hope you didn't mind me taking over the layout for a spell!  ;)

I meant to ask, too; whose kit was the Clayton? I like the way he did the headcode.

Hi Jeff,

Glad you had a good day, Simon built the Clayton I think its a Dave Alexander kit. I think he has done a great job unfortunately it's not a good runner.

A couple more pics showing the extension, and control panel.

Looked like a great day, Hope to catch up sometime, I had a play with my layout yesterday and gave a few of my new engines a run, Still undecided if I should take my layout to the show in Launceston.

Hi Pete , great pics ,looks like you had a good running day ...

Hi Keith,

Yes it was a good day, I have been out playing the last few nights, biggrin.gif my sound 25 has been getting used on everything, and a Bachmann large logo 47 turned up yesterday.biggrin.gif It's a great model I will post a few pics later in the week.

Here are a couple of pictures for you, I am really happy with the 47, though wish Bachmann had done a loco without the flush front both ends. One end would have been better as I would have bought a few more. Anyway for now I am happy to keep 47535 the same number, though I will do a few mods, like remove arieals and cut back the bufferbeam cowling, which I have done on my 47418 currently on the workbench, some extra detail on the underframe should just about do it.

One problem with playing trains this week was when double heading my Heljan 33 with a Bachmann 37, the 37 runs at a much lower speed than the 33, is there a way I can speed up the 37?biggrin.gif

Cheers Peter

There is a way you can get the 33 and 37 speeds to match ... but it involves going DCC! wink.gif

Not what I wanted to hear.biggrin.gif I reckon I could have put money on someone saying that DCC would be the go.smile.gif

Nice pictures Peter, the 33 and 37 look good together.. and the 25 stabled looks superb.

The 25 would sound nice ticking over, with a DCC sound chip on board. wink.gif

Well! Mr smarty pants,tongue.gifwink.gif I have a Bachmann 25095 with sound chip and it works fine on DC.biggrin.gif Only because SRman changed it for me though. I must say it's an absolute Beast.

Im impresseed, 33's next then..

It would be rude not too.laugh.gif Everytime SRman comes down here he brings one of his 33's with sound, he knows they are one of my favourite locos.
