I never ceased to be impressed by your efforts. There’s always so much detail in your photos. You start looking at the 25, then notice the quality of the track colour. Then you realise how many colours there are, and the different textures. And the faint hint of weeds growing. And the speed board leaning against the old van. Absolutely delightful.

Thanks for those kind words. It has taken a long time to get the layout to this point. So its appeciated. I saw some great layouts on the exhibition circuit back in the late 80s and always wanted to have something like them. working on the real railway also helped with detailing and learning how a real railway worked.

Cheers Peter.

Very nice.  That definitely looks the part - workaday and understated.

Nice job.

Thanks Paul. I am tempted to get another one but really I do have enough class 25s.

I keep telling myself that about Cromptons, but how many is enough???  :jester:   Don't need a 25 at all in my case, but never say never...

It's taken a bit of work to improve my Heljan class 25 but I am quite happy with it now.

A tad more weathering and I think its done.

As mentioned it’s all in the detail that define exceptional layouts! Once I had stopped admiring the 25 the S&T in me noticed the troughing bases discarded next to the scrap rail! It’s exactly how it would be left as no one ever cleared them away after new works! They are heavy/numb and always avoided like the plague!

Thanks Mate, I think having worked on the railway has helped with the details. Having moved some troughing on a job to help out some S&T guys I know what you mean.

I've not seen any photos of  33/1s on normal service trains but at least one (33109) did make it to Bangor on a special working push-pull with a pair of NSE 4-TC sets:

http://www.penmorfa.com/Archive/twentysix.html

If you search hard enough you'll find pictures of most of the /0 and /2 locos working the Cardiff-Crewe/Manchester/North Wales trains at some point.

Hi  Steve, I did know about 33109s day out on the coast. The penmorfa website is a great source of info.

Cheers Peter.

Echoing the comment made by the manager of a well-known retailer within our hobby "98 : one of each.  In every livery they carried" ;)

I was sure I’d seen a photo of a 33/1 working, but having had a good look I can’t find it, so I suspect it must have been the aforementioned railtour I’d seen. I did find a couple of 33/2s, which seemed a little odd.

My 1987 Platform 5 shows 26 class 25s and 94 class 33s still in use. You have plenty of scope for a couple more!

I think most of the 33/2s were seen on the coast. I only have the one, my 33/1 does see use now and then I always liked them.

Have you seen these sites:

http://6gshed.co.uk/class33inwales.html

http://www.derbysulzers.com/crewecardiff.html

http://www.derbysulzers.com/rhyl.html

http://www.derbysulzers.com/class33b.html

http://www.thebashingyears.co.uk has records of 33s on the Cardiff-Crewe/Manchester/North Wales services

A class 37 fresh from attention at Crewe works was often added on the front of the North Wales trains for testing purposes. I've no idea if the 33 was dead in tow or if the two were MU'd.

Ive just spent a few days reading through this thread from the very beginning (7th of October 2009 for reference) and its a massive source of inspiration for me and is partially a reference for my own project. I like the way you have modeled what you saw and not what you think you saw which is a very easy trap to fall into. One suggestion i do have is to cut the YouTube clips together into a longer video as it gets little disjointed between the different videos, if that's the biggest criticism i have however then i don't think you have much to worry about.

Thanks Steven,

The top link was one I hadn't seen before but the others have been useful  for information over the years.

Neither. Both locos were crewed but the one inside idling, but ready to give a bit of help if needed. 47s also featured on this turn occasionally, both as train engine and test engine (however don’t think I ever witnessed a pair of 47s).

I am glad Llanbourne has given you some inspiration for your own project.

The you tube clips are something I need to work on though it can be difficult running a train and videoing at the same time I need to workout how to edit a few clips together rather than one train at a time.

Morning Pete

if your using your iPhone to video I was put onto iMovie by Nigel (Melangoose). It’s an App and allows you to put lots of clips in one project and then edit out all the dodgy bits and then send to YT. It’s what I used for the Exford Videos.

Evening Ian,

I have a Samsung but I am sure there will be something the same as imovie for us android users. I haven't run the layout for a while so it might be a good reason to clean the tracks and have a running session.

Cheers Peter.

iMovie is very slow and clunky but does do what it suggests.  It's worth remembering though that it creates huge files which might be hard for the average device to manage let alone share for free.  You can upload to YouTube if it's less than 15 minutes but any more than that requires a paid account these days.   There's something similar on Android devices.

Hi Rick, I up load Videos to YT for my Seven Mills Sidings and put on here, some are under 15 mins and some are over, maybe 20 to 40 minutes sometimes and I've never been asked to make any payment.

I have one or two on there from a while ago which are over 15 minutes but in order to even view my own work I am asked to sign into my account first; not in itself unreasonable.  But when I tried posting a 16-minute clip last year I received the message that it was "Over-size for a free account" and would I please upgrade.  Hmmm.

Hi Peter.

I use the Photos app in Windows 10 on my PC.  I video using either a digital camera or my phone, transfer onto the PC and Photos allows you to trim, join clips together, add subtitles, etc.  Once I've done the video, I upload it to Youtube.   Even with 25 minute videos I've never had to pay on YT.

HTH.

Thanks Rod, love your layout by the way.

I will have a look at that too. Though I am not sure I have the patience to start editing videos, ut next time I am running I will do some video and give it a go.

Cheers Peter.
