Mb1984
Hi all I’ve never really had much interest in USA trains in the past, but stumbled across a picture of what looks like new Chevy Vega cars being transported and have never seen anything like it. Surely the cars had to be redesigned to keep the oil in the right places, engine.. Diff.. gearbox etc. Did any other cars get transported in this way? Love to find out more information in this. Thanks. Matt
Allegheny1600
Hi Matt, Those are "Vert a pak" boxcars, see here; https://www.amusingplanet.com/2012/12/vert-pac-unusual-way-to-transport.html Or here: https://www.railwayage.com/mechanical/freight-cars/a-look-back-in-time-the-gm-southern-pacific-vert-a-pac/ Looks like they did indeed specially design the autos for these vehicles. Cheers, John. Edited June 30, 2020 by Allegheny1600 add info

mdvle
Not currently available but Exactrail has done models of the Vert-A-Pac in HO and N.
dave1905
They were the only models ever carried by the cars and the only autos designed to be carried that way. Most Vertapack cars I have seen were converted into storage sheds.
