I am wondering whether to invest in some noise cancelling earbuds or whatever the small headphones are called these days.  I have been using the large headphones I bought when we flew to Japan for RWC 2019, when moving the lawn or using the leaf vacuum and I feel a smaller set that fitted under conventional ear defenders would be better.

They would be especially good when I am weeding and want to listen to music rather than the drone of the powered garden implements of my neighbours.

Black Friday looms!

I note the postman has just delivered a pipework sized parcel, so thinks are definitely looking up.

We are shortly off for a click and collect from the local supermarket.  Nyda pointed out that the bottle of  Welsh whisky (in the red box) and the stamps for the Christmas card despatch amounted to 50% of the bill, and the stamps were slightly more than the whisky!

As part of the great workshop and garage reorganisation, I decided that I need to stop trying to use my big dust extractor as a portable device, so I am expecting various pipes and fittings to create permanent extraction pipework for the belt sander and the scroll saw.  Eventually the only machines that will require portability are the table saw and chop saw, and one long pipe be enough as I never use the machines simultaneously.

Of course some thought needs to be given so the sighting of some 'on/off' taps at certain points in the circuit as there is no point in wasting power drawing clear air through a machine that is not running.

It would seem that this planning is an unconscious effort not to paint the spare room!:mocking_mini:

I've just been thinking of dust extractors myself for the under construction in the garage workshop there are two points that will need it the wood lathe  and the work bench, all my major equipment except the lathe , that is the  pillar drill, disk saw, band saw / Sander , vice , grinder   will be mounted on trollies that plug into a U of the main workbench. so a pipe will be needed there with individual plug ins for the equipments.  I've just thought of a third point... a hose for general floor cleaning..

I can highly recommend them. In the noise canceling world, I have a pair of Sennhieser HD 4.50 BT headphones and they are extremely good, but a bit pricy.

However I normally where Apple AirPods for most of the day. They are wireless earbuds that have there own charging case, and connect via Bluetooth to ones device. You can even get the cases with wireless charging engraved, (maybe the ones without it too, I’m not sure). Those to are a bit pricy but are excellent, and with Black Friday prices will be slashed. However they aren’t noise canceling, but the much more expensive AirPods Pro’s are. I put an image of the standard AirPods below.

I haven’t really had much success wearing ear bud devices. They work perfectly but won’t stay in my ears. I must have strange ears. An ear specialist once said my Mum did so perhaps it is hereditary!

I'm with you Tony, I prefer something that hooks over the ear.

Perhaps they could build a set that are built into the arms of a pair of spectacles, just like they used to do with hearing aids.

Super glue might be cheaper.

I can’t even get foam earplugs to stay in my ears.

I am sorry that other people have the same problem but relieved it isn't just me.

The chap who fits glasses for us at the opticians tells me that my dear wife has the most perfect nose for wearing spectacles. i said is this another term for large. He said it wasn't. Though she wouldn't have minded , her family often had conversations about who has the largest nose in the family.

They have, BOSE sound sun glasses. They cost a small fortune though I believe, only been on the market for 2 months.

Personally I find these to be rather good, especially when sneaking into a certain secret Alpine Cake Depository undetected:

https://www.shutterstock.com/editorial/image-editorial/joe-90-tv-series-1968-9053973r

(Sadly younger readers and/or those overseas who have never heard of, or seen Joe 90 will be totally mystified by all this.  I'd recommended that the Government order the series to be repeated; however I suspect that any programme featuring a nine-year old boy packing a gun may now be considered to be bad form....)

Fear not, Joe 90/everything Jerry Anderson was fed to me on a daily basis by my dad, thankfully.

Good morning

Had my first sound fitted Heljan Manning and Wardle running on the High line in the last few days. 'Lew' ran faultlessly for a few hours in both directions apart form the rear pony wheel not turning properly till it was seen to.

I am disappointed, i wanted to see more of the SCL woodchip hopper! :jester: Seriously, what scale is that? I am too lazy to scroll back and check.

Evening,

The railway on which the Mogul runs was moved to the spare room, (or guest room), and two very good runs were had today. Some goods wagons were also won on eBay, made by the Leeds Model Company: A Brentnall & Cleland PO wagon, and an LMS van. Hopefully they will arrive by the end of the week.

This morning I had an appointment with the Orthodontist. It was supposed to take only about 25 minutes, but ended up taking more like 50 do to it being discovered that I had two broken brackets on my top braces. Anyways they were fixed, and I went on my way.

I included a shot of the PO wagon, and one of the Mogul raising steam on the new “layout.”

It is I believe,a  4mm/ft loco running on 9mm track. Called OO9, very popular narrow gauge scale/gauge here.

The loco is 009. The SCL woodchip car is HO scale. I have a few US freight cars siting in a siding on the test circuit.

This morning I'm off for my rather delayed (only 9 months) by C-19, Glaucoma checks.

The worry is that I'm sitting here ready to go, all documentation to hand, having eaten breakfast etc with 40 minutes to go before I leave, and, having run through my check list a couple of times, everything is in place.

This is not normal!

Thanks Chris,

In fact it was a bit of an anticlimax as they didn't carry out a field of vision test, and apart from taking a photo of each eye and  a pressure test, that was it.

My appointment was at 0930, I arrived at 0924 and was ushered straight in.  I was out and heading back to the car at 0930!

Nyda who had accompanied me as I'd been warned to take a companion in case they had to dilate the eyes for examination, had just finished unpacking her sewing by the time I'd got back to the car.:mocking_mini:

I think some cogitation over a cup of tea and a slice of banana cake is called for prior to some work within the grounds.

Much fun has been had playing with the scroll saw.

Some rather repetitive work making replacement joiners for the wooden railway track and road system for the grandchildren, and a bit of experimentation to see how quickly I can make some Christmas tree decorations.

The answer is not as quickly as I would like, but it will be easier to work to a pattern glued onto the plywood, rather than totally freehand.

That sounds a remarkably good plan. From what I read here you could have a queue at the back door looking for samples :laugh_mini:
