RichardW
I need some advise on the use of a timer with the Kaydee 309 magna electric uncoupler. I would like to use a push button to active the uncoupler, need to put a timer in the circuit to leave both hands free for train control. As the voltage required to the uncoupler is 16 volt I feel that any 12 volt timer would be unsuitable. Has anyone had any experience of using a timer with these uncouplers or know of one that works? Thanks in advance for any replies.

An example is here. http://www.555-timer-circuits.com/driving-a-relay.html You want the first circuit. Note that for your intended purpose, you'd need a short time.
RichardW
Thanks Kevin I'll mock up the circuit to test it out, but seems logical to me. Guess your a London Midland fan too! Stay safe.
