Given EWS stated that on record that "no Class 47's would last long enough to gain a repaint into the livery". how comes 47s 47785 and 47786 both gained EWS  livery?

Well 47785 and 47786 were repainted for their naming ceremonies at Waterloo held on 11 June 1997. Indeed in total 17 Class 47s got the EWS livery.

Dont forget as well that  33030 was painted EWS red and gold, the only one so painted. That was for Toton Open Day 1998.

Regards

  • RMweb Gold

47.792 also got the new livery.  Seen here at Acton 24May03.  (AFAIK it was just parked next to those hoppers and never hauled them).  Edit: I photted her at London Bridge in Feb 2003 so repaint was between Feb and this pic.

47744 and 47787 were standby Loco's for the Royal Train. Both getting used at different points.

47744 also carried two names during its life and also ran nameless for a while .

IIRC , a couple were painted early on in the EWS period as above - I think @ Roy castle “ was one of them as they re did the charity rail tour which ran in 95.

the majority of them were resprayed  following “ reliability mods “ in 2002/3 (?) , however by the end of 2003 most were scrapped as the loss of RM traffic left a lot of 67s knocking about

If you follow the link to this page and scroll down you will see a rather nice image of 47627 apparently after the celebrations branding was removed.  I have not seen a picies of 47627 in this condition and was under the impression it was scrapped with the faded vinyl branding.
