Crickey you aren’t arf producing some super professional resprays .

I’m about to attempt my first - 47016 in RF grey . I’ve hit a cheap ass Chinese airbrush and Phoenix paints for this one . I’ve had to buy a new body shell as over zealous stripping off the initial cock up broke it

Yesterday didn't get much done apart from a bit of prep on the next class 90 but today managed to get back onto 90030. Front numbers now on and door handles painted, couple of touch ups needed on the paint job including cant rail above drivers window:IMG_1836.jpg.69a91556609609e0637d44f7638b7768.jpg

Other jobs included fitting the front valence ready for buffer beam detail tomorrow and the yellow bands on the bottom of the bodywork. For these I have used the Fox Transfers and am  pretty pleased with the result. IMG_1832.jpg.147c8bb18f313b025a76015ec9a7144d.jpg

and the other side:

Tomorrow will see the last few decals (OHLE flashes) a quick test run, hence roof still missing and then a light weathering.

Smart work Jerry, you get a really good paint finish! Very nice.

Does the cantrail area need touching up? Looks a good start for some weathering to me ;)

90030 was one where the reflective stripe followed the zig zag of the lower body edge, some others had it straight. Small detail that I don't know if you'd want to alter, but a variation across the fleet.

Looking forward to seeing some grime on this one!

Hi Jo, the cant rails is only minor but it bugs me so will fettle! With the yellow stripe I’m going to paint in the yellow under the cab sides or cut the decal and use a short strip in its place- I tried to get the stripe to conform but it broke so left it to harden overnight. I may even paint the whole thing if I can’t get the finish I want! Will post some pics later today of how it goes, cheers Jerry

Hi Jo, I have amended the yellow stripe but the area isn't particularly well defined on the model but it looks better with it done. Quite a few bits done on the model to finish and a start made on the weathering. Still a few more little niggles to sort before it's done.

Also on the workbench today was 87006 in its very tatty and faded virgin livery, good fun this one!

Hi Rob, saw on another thread you’re having problems with the Phoenix paint - r u using acrylic or enamel - all my stuffs done with enamel so may be able to help with mixes etc! Cheers Jerry

Hi Jerry,

thanks for that - I haven’t used Phoenix before but I managed to get all the required colours at a show. I’ve managed to get warning panel yellow to spray once before but decided the primer was too bobbly so took it all off.

i tried again yesterday and couldn’t get it to spray at all. I started at about 25 % thinner, and increased to probably 50/50 in desperation but nothing .

Dont know if it was too cold, or not stirred enough , but  it just wouldn’t come out.  There has been some talk that I need their air drying thinner no 9 rather than their general thinner no 8 , but I’d be surprised if this was the issue

90030 is now finished so another "missing" Bachmann livery completed :D I had reference pics where the sides had been kept fairly clean by the wash plant but the roof and bogies were pretty grotty so pretty pleased with how its turned out.  Here's a few pics without the usual workbench tut in the background.

Lovely big nameplate, this one is from Fox but supplied black so I refinished it in red, decals from Fox too.

Last up a bit of roof detail

Hi Rob, sorry just seen your reply. I take it your on the enamel? I spray about 50:50. I use a colour cup rather than a jar on my brush so stir around 50 revolutions with a cocktail stick. My consistency test is to drag some paint up the side of the cup and if it runs freely down it’s about right- a milky consistency. The other thing is I use cellulose thinners which is fast drying. I know everyone will have a fit about using cellulose on plastic but you only use it in the paint- never to wipe stuff!!
with everything it’s what you can get on with and after a few hundred locos and god knows how many model kits it works for me. Try it out in your scrap body and see how you get on, cheers Jerry

Thanks Jerry . I’ll mix some up again when the atmospherics are right but I’ll abort the operation if it doesn’t look right on abit of scrap.

Off topic question , because you ve probably sprayed a load of 3 TG sector models - any idea what colour most of the grills are ? Nose ones seem to be body grey but not the rest

Hi Rob, good luck with the painting! As far as I know on the 3 TG  livery the grills are usually body colour on 37s noses but black on the radiators and the bodysides, likewise on 60s, 56s, 31s and 33s. I know there will be variations on depot favourites so I think its one to go by the photo evidence. I'm sure whatever colour you paint them someone will delight in pointing out its the wrong colour:wacko: Cheers Jerry

Busy morning with work on the 90s continuing. First up upper bodysides to the one in the previous picture, the masking should give a few clues as to what this is going to be....IMG_18877.jpg.199f3541788eba7debce068f6ae06da0.jpg

Next up a coat of RES red for another Penny Black

Last up, just cast some replacement underframe boxes for the 90s and with a quick coat of paint - will tidy up the red - IMG_1888.jpg.588647af15af38cd064f871426c7d05e.jpg

Hi Jerry.

Super Job on 90030. I’m going to hazard a guess that one of those 90s will be 036 in Two Tone grey? If so, will you be branding it as faded Railfreight or EWS Three Lions? If it’s the latter, best keep it aside for me ;)

looking forward to seeing it though. Those battery boxes look great. Are those the type on the RFD models or the Powerhaul models? Looking like they’re from the RFD.

Hi Jack, It will be 90036 with the big beasties as it was a regular here so always liked it- especially as it was quite moth eaten! The battery boxes are from the Powerhaul 90 - on the RFD one its just a flat box. I checked out pictures and I'm not convinced by Bachmanns version but at least now they will all be the same - perhaps one day I will investigate further and make my own which I can then cast from! Cheers Jerry

More 90 work this afternoon, majority of it spent decaling and naming another of my favourites 90043. This will not be remaining in this condition for long!!IMG_1898.jpg.e786628a18c1edd44f3efea365245167.jpg

The other 90 task was to get the bottom band sprayed onto the mainline 90. I really liked this livery and found a nice pic of 026 at Ipswich in my phots ( most the others were in London) so it may become that one.

Here's a couple of the work so far, next big job is to sort the front out...btw the fluff is from the masking not stuck in the paint IMG_19001.jpg.f35c5d7e3809a91ac014bad509659dc8.jpg

Today has seen the majority of time weathering 90043. I found some great pics of it looking a real state so have been having a lot of fun replicating this. All the airbrush work is now done so small details and a bit more to go which will keep me occupied Sunday! Here it is:IMG_1915.jpg.d9283877445877be70c4c598bb807a5b.jpg

Chips & rust mark finishing are part of Sundays to do list

IMG_1916.jpg.2441e9499125d5244dd860af821d4c09.jpg

Managed to drop the body over one of the TDM cables but its not screwed down at this point so no great drama. Window frames will be smoothed off and varnished for a nice flat finish, buffer grease to come too..

IMG_1917.jpg.18a38e8af1db652aebc96202cd0f8827.jpg

Happy with how this has come out....

IMG_1918.jpg.e59e404c3a28fda400e9c30880693689.jpg

Not so happy with this... the diamond patch isn't great on the real loco but it just looks wrong in this size, I will smooth this off, make a mask and spray it back in, another task for Sunday!
