Mixed day here, at 6.30 this morning greeted by this ....

The destinations were not easy as the boxes and old destinations are printed in reverse so had to remove that bit but leave the surround which is brown and then put the decal on the outside to give the appearance of the box

The 101 has had the black cab surrounds added, buffer beams from red back to black, detail packs added and dummy headlights painted- these are just tacked on at the mo to match the paint so will be properly fixed tomorrow with their lenses added when I do the destinations. Silver window frame added to the drivers window then put it all back together so on the way

last up as I could get some heat up was a respray of the silver on the pretendalino DVT where the virgin branding had been removed. As just about the worst colour to a) match and b) spray I was really pleased with how this came out

Thats it for today, hopefully snow free tomorrow!

Hi Ben, you’re welcome to the snow but it’s just about gone so warming up! I need to sort out some bigger workspace, not enough room for all my squirrel stuff! Cheers Jerry

Luckily we’ve thawed out so more painting today after finishing off the decals on the 101. This has had the yellow ends faded and the roof and under frames weathered

The Derby lightweight is going to be lightly weathered to reflect its early livery so a lighter application to the chassis and roof;

last up after a couple of yards of masking tape 90130 has been tangoed...

That will sit and dry for a day or so then it will be on with the yellow.

Proud new owner of Jerry’s 90034 which is a stunning respray and knocks spots off any other respray I’ve seen of this particular 90! Every last detail was picked out. A true beauty that’ll stand out running round my layout.

won’t be long until it’s running round with some AGA mk3s and the pretendolino behind it!

Huge, huge thanks again Jerry!

DMUs Part 1. Derby Lightweight and NSE 101 finished off  today so they can go home next week. The DMU models available now are so much better than the old days and surprised I don't see more of them. I really like the old green livery which has had the speed whiskers removed, Lion & wheels added, new destinations and a light weathering. Shame I couldn't get Lincoln St Marks or Lincoln central so Lincoln it is!IMG_2484.jpg.f01b163a25fe0eb9acb8b8938fafce1b.jpg

DMUs Part 2. The other part of the duo is the NSE livery 101, quite a lot of additions and changes to this one. New set numbers and coach numbers from Railtec, black window surrounds and buffer beams and a heavier weathering to the running gear and a fade to the yellow ends.

How did you go about fading the yellow ends? It looks spot on. Very impressive, as always.

Dave

Hi Dave, I used a filter ( like a Wash) to to get the shade I wanted. It’s a technique used a lot in model kits and I use it quite a lot for fades and shades, cheers Jerry

Thanks Jerry, a quick Google search of filters brought up a whole load of info about a technique I knew nothing about.

Started work today on the next projects, some variety here!

The 68 is having a different number and the yellow ends resprayed from some weird lemon...

647A6146-2D68-4514-BEAF-4F01C305905A.jpeg.473ce806c469d007716724be02258afd.jpeg

into a deeper warning yellow

The DB skip was a respray I did a long time ago for Matt and we were never happy with the shade of the large DB logos. A replacement set has come from Steve @railtec-models and look so much better. They have settled down perfectly over the body side ridges:

The other paint of the day was on 90130 which has had its yellow warning panels added87D19B4C-6F34-4115-9200-5E366219704D.jpeg.6e4d1b2387dd57532061fa583c6551b1.jpeg

hopefully more progress tomorrow and hope it warms up a bit!

Just a few quick pics from the workbench - warts and all as all works in progress. The renumber of the 68 has gone perfectly but the yellow warning panel needs sorting! The camera is cruel but this has failed My quality control so will be sorted tomorrow

8FF555B6-14F0-4514-9F04-14BB37AA1CCF.jpeg.83e3d99e0223e3544a583c8ccabe01c3.jpeg

next up is 37099, this has had the rear snow ploughs repainted to get a better match than the Bachmann plastic. Weathering has started with the chassis and body side grills

E7EA297E-C1CF-404D-831C-6E808F4E2FB8.jpeg.01c378930ea196133639bd274cc61fbb.jpeg

Another weathering job is Poppy, added all the plates and detail pack and started the weathering on the chassis

DCD72216-7BED-489F-9808-6D2AFD252784.jpeg.87b35baab90b64ea053a87e864c570e6.jpeg

The DB 67 had its replacement body side logos yesterday but have taken the opportunity to just tweak weathering a bit

D93B021F-244F-4AAE-9448-0BDB5981442D.jpeg.f5028b1d9d8d843053a48bb1019be229.jpeg

last up is slim Jim 205 - what a pain in the ar@e! Heljan numbers are a nightmare to remove and the body colour paint is so thin you normally lose some of that. Add in that west coast maroon is a nightmare to match it’s a problem waiting to happen. Got it all done and varnished the new paint which changed the shade so added a mix of flat and satin to get the colour right. Other jobs included buffer beams from red to black, lamp irons into yellow and last up fitting new oval buffers to the fan end-

final insult is I took the pic to check it out and realise I’ve put the body on wrong way round:sarcastichand: poxy thing, I will sort it and the 68 tomorrow, right where’s the red wine.....

Today has sorted out the hiccups of yesterday and a start made on the roofs  of these fourEA92E19D-3335-4F5F-9CA5-092AB05A9ACF.jpeg.cc3fd0f4529920e242b13f12532dd0fb.jpeg

with those drying off it was time to get the international grey on 90130, here it is with the grey on

last up was the long term project HST-P where I’ve got all the grills done and the numbers and OHLE flashes on. It’s slowly coming together, how nice it would be to have an off the shelf one!

Four completions today, a mix of weathering and detailing but a colourful lot nonetheless.  Colas 37099 detailed and weathered,

IMG_25444.jpg.8709d3d410defcfedee161d2999a6294.jpg

Another 66614 following one I did for another customer earlier on the workbench, simple fitting of the plates and detail pack then a weathering to bring it all together

IMG_2545.jpg.5e5bf4208baef44578e9dc6348458c09.jpg

DRS plain blue 68 with a change of identity from 026 to 027 and replacement yellow panels. Finished off with a weathering to the exhaust and fan group with a very light weathering to the rest of the roof and under frames to lose the toy like look of the original;

IMG_2550.jpg.135c5276755b9d14abfe0e248095bd59.jpg

and the aforementioned roof...

IMG_2551.jpg.f38d9cbaf9ba2faba91f06ecc2069e04.jpg

Last up was the 67 which I did a few years back and this week replaced the DB logos. A few revisions have been made to the weathering before it goes home.

The Compton is now done, 95% accurate with its revised buffers and detail painting but it should really lose its tail lights as these  were removed on the actual loco- seems a shame to have to rework a whole front end so may ( or not) bite the bullet and do it!

B644EE81-526D-44D0-A9CC-B4DE259EECCC.jpeg.75c2b7fc3521d0e6efddab990244c16e.jpeg

Another completion which was a paint only commission is a Mk3 in reverse grey and blue

last up the weathering has gone on to the HST-P. I don’t have the glazing or buffers which are with the owner so hence these aren’t fitted!

Hi Jack, it’s a nightmare to work with - this one was the whole metal body- ones I’ve done before I used the cab on a new Hornby body. Thanks for the compliment though I’m glad it’s come out ok! Cheers Jerry
