Mixed day again at Squirrel Rail. The NR 37s or should that be 97s are underway with 304 having it's new numbers and plates. I have begun fading 303 and 304 will follow tomorrow before a start on the detail painting and weathering.

The next two for numbers were these two sheds, 731 becoming 754 and 434 becoming 422

The nameplates came with plain green and silver crests which in fact should be black, gold, silver, red and green so have made a start painting these and will finish off later

Silly Squirrel - just managed to upload 1/2 a post:crazy_mini: Here are the crests being painted - look dreadful close up but you have to add a bit of paint, take a pic, remove or add some and repeat many times.... getting thereIMG_2977.jpg.c428bc74ce23de04aadb09b62771b6dc.jpg

Slightly bigger I resprayed the red on the parcels 47 as I decided I didn't like the finish - also noticed a bug bear of mine that there's some crap underneath where the cab handrails will sit - grrr

IMG_2979.jpg.d39b59a92e1d003d6859a10ac9b8a421.jpg

Last up got the buffer beam red and diesel roof grey on the Taurus - I love this little loco, it's soooo cool.

Right back to going cross eyed - Squirrel out!

made a start on the weathering today with the pair of 66s and 47847, here's the three and then some individual pics:

IMG_3002.jpg.3d5c135a7f6c09d3fc6a0e21ae9bb325.jpg

First up 66422 a renumber from 434 with a reworked exhaust and starting the roof and underframes'

and a general view showing the chassis and start on the roof;

The other 66, 754 has had the crests and nameplates added and the weathering started,

IMG_2998.jpg.662633111ac8afa21e6b276870724153.jpg

Only one colour on the roof at present so looks a bit odd...

Lastly 47847, this was a full respray and today was picking out the red springs on the bogies before starting the weathering, got a couple of issues with the cant rail that I will resolve when the paint has hardened. Couple of views from either side.

Another variety on the Squirrel Rail bench today, paint going onto three of the 90s, Rail Grey bottom for one;

Next up DB red, haven't done DB red since a Hornby one back in the day when the livery first came out!

and the third one is going into EWS

After those it was finishing touches to the weathering for these three which are all ready to go back home

Always nice to see the Squirrel Rail workbench packed with body shells. Looking forward to seeing the 90s as you know me!

im hoping Bachmann announce more liveries for the 90 next month - it would be the ultimate Sod’s law if they did though :mosking:

I would like to see a DB or Anglia one - if they did the mods- save me the job of respirating them although unless they do a collectors club again I can’t see them covering the oddities- roll on the 3rd and see what happens!

Anglia stands next to no chances unless it’s a collector club release or region specific model (would make sense if it was the latter)

Virgin stands the highest chance to go with the rest of the virgin locos and stock getting produced. EWS is up there too, a livery I’d like to see get made. Freightliner Racing green perhaps or RES for the sector modellers.

Hi Jack, It's all a bit of a guessing game but I reckon DB red is still the obvious choice. Virgin would be good to see too, I have shied away from these two liveries as I always thought they would be done by Bachmann - I really want to do a de-branded one like they were when they first came over to Anglia. The Anglia white livery is current and has life in it still with Freightliner using them some a pretty strong choice and they have 15 to aim at so at least they can get the money back on their investment. I wish they would release a plain grey one for me to paint :D

I am all for the Anglia liveries, however I'd been keen to see Bachmann do a refurbished DBSO in the Anglia livery along with some mk2s in the turquoise.

At least with Anglia stock there is a choice of plenty of 90 liveries to run. ONE Railways always suited the Class 90s.

I feel Jack and I share the same view on class 90s ;)

The only caution I see on Bachmann doing more 90’s, is that two of them are still in stock.. rfd and Freightliner.

I agree DB is a natural, I think RES (as it gives another old and new combo), plus DB and EWS wont clash that way). Virgin is another natural choice, but is slightly out of date for modern “today” modellers, though Virgin does have a cult behind it.

I wouldnt be entirely surprised if no class 90 was announced.. just yet.

Not to derail Squirrels  thread too much, I do reckon that an EWS or DBS livery is likely. The Virgin livery is also likely, remembering that there are Virgin Mk.2’s coming out… I think that RES could be the final one as they have released the RES Mk.1 super BG again…

but maybe that’s just too much straight forward thinking for Bachmann.

Just as I’m finishing a RES one:mellow:

I think you’ll do a better job!

The RES one is a dark horse really, I only see it happening as they have done the coaches and the 47 before.

I’d Faint with joy if I ever saw a refurbed DBSO or Mk2 in Anglia livery but I doubt that’s on the cards. I think Hornby would be more likely to do the Mk2s than Bachmann. While Bachmann already do the original dbso, it’s anyone’s guess if they’d stretch to do a retool of the refurbished ones. It makes sense given how popular Network Rail stock is but that’s all been covered by Hornby. I have a feeling that Anglia would get missed out on the list of liveries if a refurbed DBSO was announced (Anglia could be the reason altogether we havn’t seen one yet) but who knows what the future holds.

East Anglia had a big variety in liveries on the class 90s, but I just think the lack of popularity in the region puts manufactures off. It’s a swings and roundabouts thing where nobody models it because the traction and rolling stock doesn’t get produced. But the stock doesn’t get produced because nobody models it. You’ve got to be fully dedicated to modelling it at the moment because you’ll be spending a lot more money than others on models getting them all repainted. A major put off nobody (including myself) would like to do, why do this when you can model something like the WCML that has all the stock you’d need to model it available in RTR off the shelf? Plus Hornby churning out more pendolinos every year. WCML layouts bore me to tears though because of how repetitive they seem to be (the vast majority of them being pendolino era) but make a WCML layout with Old Red/Black virgin mk2 stock hauled by AC electrics and I’d sit and watch it quite happily. Hopefully, seeing more ‘proper’ WCML layouts in this form rather than the constant Pendolino/Voyager ones will happen with the amount of virgin stock that gets made - Just waiting on a virgin 90 from Bachmann :P don’t forget that the 90s and mk3 sets ran as unbranded virgin for some time when they first transferred to anglia so you’d have a mix of liveries and stock amongst the trains.

anyway, back to you Jerry!

Network Rail 37s were the completion today apart from the other ongoing work and will be heading home tomorrow. These two will be double heading so hence the couplings on 304, really nice pair of locos, decals from Railtec and plates from Fox, fading and weathering by Squirrel....IMG_3066.jpg.2cb0ca26185eb3a25d428484bbbf18cd.jpgIMG_3067.jpg.43a01d7f06e31326b4bd08ee2466e5c6.jpgIMG_3069.jpg.2b45ec2b6ff936fe710efccff4dee888.jpg
