Few bits of assembly and start of weathering to make the most of the prospect of warmer weather making the workshop useable. Bit of BR Green with the EFE Hymek, Heljan in old money which has had a crew fitted and the detail pack and ploughs added. Few washes and detail painting ready for the airbrush;

The 86 project is coming on too, details fitted on one end most of the decals on too

IMG_3223.jpg.4cec937507093192e132597445b8c384.jpg

Last up starting the weathering on 90130 and finishing 90017, base weathering and a few bits of detail painting on 130

The 90017. I said earlier in the thread that this was fitted with round buffers but they should only be on one end with the cut buffers on the other, therefore a quick buffer swap has taken place and these will be re-weathered tomorrow

Just found this thread Jerry and had an enjoyable few days reading through it, absolutely stunning work, I love it!

Really tempted to have a go at modelling a tired 90048 in grey based inspired by your rendition of '047. Having had '048 on a number of sleeper journeys prior to the 92s coming in it would make a more personal touch at the head of my sleeper set.

Just one question (I have many), when you've repainted nameplates do you do that with an incredibly steady hand or do you paint on and then remove the paint from the edges and raised lettering? How do you do that please?

Thanks, Al

Hi Al, thanks for the kind comments and glad you have enjoyed the thread. When I refinish the nameplates I just strip and respray them, although you can hand paint if you prefer. Make sure the paint is fully dry and then use 2000 grade wet and dry - put the wet and dry on a flat surface and the plate face down and push it left to right with your finger, or you can do it face up with a very fine sanding stick. The key is very fine so you don’t get scratches. Hope that helps and good luck with the 90, cheers Jerry

That's brilliant, thank you.

Good start to the day with paint going onto the Western which is going into a "what if" livery, always a challenge to paint is silver!

Finishing touches to 90036 also

Wow Hornby 86 can be made to look good.

Can I ask for the orange jumper sockets what did you use ?

They were the Heljan 47 ones but I cut the cables off and replaced them with thin rubber cord, could have used wire but the rubber glues really well. All the conversion work was done by the owner and he's made a great job of it, I just put the paint and transfers + a the TDM cables, wipers and glazing on so can't take the credit for it. It will have the roof ariels and headlights fitted when it returns home.

Completions again today with the Hymek finished and a pair of 90s. The Hymek was just dirty not totally battered..IMG_3246.jpg.f8b7c2f3d846c2e852fccc3cd6e41b14.jpg

and a roof view, again nothing too mad just dirty,

First of the pair of 90s is 90017 in RES, still one of the nicest 90 liveries, liked the plates on this one so that's why I chose it after having done 3 Penny Blacks!

From the other end with the round buffers, now correctly fitted to one end only...

and a couple of side shots

your very kind , the paint has really bought it to life. I am so glad I filled the body side holes where the under frame clips in. It really does improve it

Decals onto 90017 today and the body back on the chassis. Detail pack and TDM cables to add then it's ready for weathering.IMG_3279.jpg.76b344411166e7e1de5e59da02ce76e5.jpg

Respray work on a Mk2 into Anglia colours has hit a setback - the gutter which is orange is lumpier than a ploughed field, didn't look or feel to bad until I ran the bow pen down it so this can dry off before I rub the orange down tomorrow and do it all again,

IMG_3280.jpg.133b953c85afedba552ee0c5038ff378.jpg

Two other projects are the 58's. Work is ongoing on EW&S 033 which has previously had the gold band moved and bodyside red resprayed. Today it was adding the black sole bar so this will be ready for it's numbers over the next couple of days then onto weathering.

IMG_3285.jpg.362bc5cec65f841587415e8fdf3d072e.jpg

The other 58 is 003 which is having it's nameplates replaced at it had some stray glue where it shouldn't have been and I will also renumber it before weathering as the previous numbers didn't quite match. Today it has had both the cabsides refinished and the plates back on.

IMG_3286.jpg.a89c7ce5c96774a14ee243a22a2f2a0a.jpg

Last bit of the day was 90129 where I am still trying to get a decent finish around the windows -tidying this one up at the present. Have learned a few things from it so have masked another shell to see if this one works better

Sorry jerry 58003 I have been looking forward to you doing at better job than me of it . I should have taken all the numbers off and had railtec make up the whole set but hoped foxs transfers waterslide numbers would match the end numbers of heljans pre fitted numbers . As for glue omg tried just a little on a cocktail stick and still managed to get it to run off towards the cab windows . Thanks

As we are on the class 90s to do I've got to say I always liked them before they were unclothed.

Complete ONE Anglia livery.

Mind it would mean plenty of spraying Jerry :p

FB_IMG_1613599727223.jpg

The “plain” blue anglia is easy enough - getting those stripes right on the full One livery will be a challenge :o

Yesterday and today has seen the 58s numbered and the exhausts repainted prior to weathering, 003 with new cab and front numbers9EE2A6DF-37D4-45D9-B349-48993B4C8AFF.jpeg.8a02c06dfe999b25f20b4b76b1b26af4.jpeg

033 with its EW&S branding from Steve @railtec-models

Various other things have moved on but not noticeably different apart from another 90045 which has had its identity swap, repositioned OhLE flashes and zero injuries branding added.

all of these now ready for weathering.
