Just the usual check in!

90017... my word, that is a beauty! Very jealous of that, hope my future EWS Skodas look like that <_< also interested to see how the two GNERs turn out as well! Nice to see a bit of Anglia on the work bench, a bit of home for you Jerry!

With regards to the Hattons 66, what was removing the transfers like? When I weathered a couple of their FEA wagons, I went to remove the weathering from around the decals and ended up removing some of the decals by accident! I think I was using quite harsh thinner though and I didn’t varnish the model beforehand either (classic schoolboy rookie mistake but I was inexperienced at the time!) I havn’t weathered one since but do varnish everything prior to weathering now...

reason I’m asking though is im wanting to model 66505 which has an offset Freightliner logo on one side.   I’m debating use a Hattons model for it, I do want to get another one but they seem a gamble when purchasing at the moment due to their issues! I need to build my faith up in them before I buy so I may even just go with a Bachmann model. But if I do get another Hattons one, I don’t want a pigs ear of it and I hope the decals are a bit more secure than what they were on the wagons!

Hi Jack, 90017 was a regular hire in back in the early days of us having 90s so nice to model another with Anglia connections.

The 66 was fairly easy to remove the decals as they appeared not be varnished over. I used blunt cocktail sticks to gently remove the decal and Tamiya pointed cotton buds with a tiny amount of white spirit on the stubborn bits. All came off easily which is more than can be said for taking the body off- what a pain with those steps! Cheers Jerry

Indeed, EWS 90s were common hire ins for several years on the GE! Got a photo saved of 90017 along side an anglia 86 at Norwich. Nice to see it prototypically modelled with the rubbing plates and squared retractable buffers.

Also have photos of 90031 and 039 too both in EWS livery. But strangely enough, these have the rectangular buffers and their rubbing plates removed! 031 also having yellow TMD sockets rather than orange ones. All these little differences between the class and liveries I always like and it makes them unique.

Regarding the Hattons shed - I had a feeling there would be a lack of varnish! But I guess it makes life easier when you actually want to remove the decals!

Hi Jack, 017 had cut buffers at one end and round on the other and kept the rubbing plates as annex RES loco, 31 and 39 were rail freight locos hence the ovals but saying that I’m not sure if the RES ones changed later on. I’ve got quite a few pics of the hire ins as used to be on my daily commute to and from London! Cheers Jerry

Decals today, finishing the Key worker 66- had two different decal sheets for this - only one was correct though as the unused one is printed short - note the broom heads on the right hand figures on the loco but missing on the other sheet! 2D12FC2B-7DFE-40A4-9CC0-E2DDE468D373.jpeg.cc0bd28752cc871a6077011da71a30ae.jpeg

A bit more progress today with the start of the weathering on the 66s

the 37 in the background has had its cant rails added and will be put back together tomorrow before starting the weathering. On the subject of Cant rails I spent this morning getting them finished on the 90s and the orange stripes on the GNER pair. Hopefully get them all reassembled and the rest of the decals on tomorrow

The 90s are still being worked on but the 66s are now finished.

66952 was a rebrand, refinish the exhaust, lose the white tyres and yellow axle box’s and finish off with a weathering

The DB 66 was a chip fit and renumber from  118 to 113 and the key worker decals

Hi,

Are you using foxes orange band for the GNER 90? If so are you having to cobble the number together from a 91 numbering sheet?

Cheers

Benjamin

Hi Benjamin, I used @railtec-models orange stripes and GNER sheet for 224 and 024 was a custom print from them. Nice and easy! Cheers Jerry

Superb work Jerry; very nice! The paint finish on the two 024s is cracking. Have you used the Phoenix GNER? Since doing mine I did a lot of research on 024, could be wrong but didn’t it have dark blue valances and blue rain strips below the cab windows?

90024

Not sure what condition you’re doing her in but just thought I’d post one of the photos from Flickr I’d been working from.

Keep up the great work!

Hi Will, the valences are blue but these are both being weathered so there is a cheat going on here with them as the ETH & TDM fittings have a habit of snapping the locating  lugs. You’re spot on with the rain strips though I will amend them!

Awesome work Jerry, looks much better! I took so many goes at getting the area right, it was an absolute pain. Apologies about the valances, I didn’t realise they were weathered, should’ve looked at the bogies!

Glad it helped, always happy to help a fellow modeller!

90 update - they’re getting there, a day of decals and details, time consuming but it’s the details that make the difference! 6E64789B-3701-4CF2-897B-759D2AA17FBA.jpeg.a58b248d066cd6202546c926de7507dd.jpeg

Also following this topic now to keep up with your work! Very impressive!

Hi Will, no need to apologise I’m grateful for the steer and happy to change things to get them right. It’s funny how you can stare at pictures and still miss the obvious! Cheers Jerry
