RMweb Premium Ncarter2 Posted April 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 12, 2021 Got to say that VT 90 looks fantastic. Was the first 90 I got to cab when based in Rugby. 87’s were always the preferred when heading North from Euston, but if 90012 was in, I’d pick that. I do miss them days of proper locomotives. Units just done have the same appeal, says he who is now based in EMU country! 1

Squirrel Rail
Just a quick update of what’s due to be finished over the next few days - basically anything in the picture! I’m off to visit the guys at Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds tomorrow to stock up on essentials to help this lot over the finish line. 90047 has just one OHLE glad to go and then that joins 012 for weathering. Hopefully some more interesting updates soon...
BelsteadLane
All looking very nice Jerry. The Virgin one looking very cool indeed - should have left it unbranded though and gave it too me 90047 is a unique Skoda due to its green door, so that’s a very nice touch - real loco gained it in 2011 so technically I need it on mine (I was offered it when GC weathered it but for some reason, I turned it down) but as I’ll be reworking it to be modelled as it was in the mid 2000s, I won’t need to change it. I will however need to rework the weathering, add the depot plaques back on and remove the Zero Injury decals!
rob D2
Nice work ! I’m having a total mare with Phoenix enamels trying to do a respray - I may strip the damn thing and use railmatch acrylic which I find much easier to work with

You seem to get your cantrail stripes spot on, what is your secret? John Hi John, thank you for the kind words. The cant rail conundrum varies from model to model but I normally use Fox orange Lining as you can use microset with these. On models that are due be be weathered I sometimes use a bow pen instead of the lining decals but I think my pen is wearing out as it doesn’t produce as consistent line like it used to. The other option is to mask out the factory line to preserve this but not always feasible- I did do a post on here last year where I did the cant rails on a 37, hopefully that all helps! Cheers Jerry
Squirrel Rail
Slightly more interesting update today with Hood getting its executive dark grey 90222 getting its lower body side grey and 60002 getting GBRF blue Ive made a start on the decals on 66113 after it’s respray from EWS a d started the Shanks branding on one side of 522 finally been working on the running gear on the RSC tanks with the blue wheel centres and spokes going into black and then red rims and brake gear.

Squirrel Rail
Long day today so quite a long update- started with a decal disaster on Shanks which just “shattered” what a pain replacement requested! Time for Rob D2 to cover his eyes as the Yeoman Western is now done This will be heading home with the colourful trio, all wasped up and ready to go and from the back Scotrail 47 next, a respray I did a few years back but now sound fitted; and another long term resident finished is the Midland 153 with GWR branding and new numbers lastly the MPVs have all got their numbers so another one off the to do list! 14
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted April 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 18, 2021 (edited) Agecroft Colliery trio look fantastic, and each with its own unique stripes replicated. 3 engines of my childhood, I recall seeing weekly on the train to visit the grand parents.. (Flickr URL, not my image) Over to me, and I Just need narrow planet to deliver up the plates now, and fit some handrails so I can finish them off, and pretend i’m watching them from a passing class 104/5. rob D2
Thanks for your encouragement and inspiration , finally got grey to spray ok after i swapped out phoenix thinners for humbrol and throughly cleaned brush in a vat of thinners . not sure how to approach the black window surround as itll be hard to mask with tiny yellow between roof and black - maybe outline with paint pen and fill ? Sorry to hijackyour stuff !

Cut a strip of Tamiya tape to just under a mill wide and mask it - then use a paint marker, you should be able to mask and spray the rest, cheers Jerry
Squirrel Rail
Class 90s today with 6 on the go... four are currently being weathered, Barbie 021 is having the last of its decals and RFD Euro 222 is about to get its decals 047 has had its patches added where the depot plaque was and started to add some of the chips and dings 049 is just undergoing a few washes prior to airbrush work so the overall splatter on the front won’t be staying like that 14
