Great job on the interiors Jerry. I certainly feel for you doing those :P very tedious but makes the world a difference!

Hi Jack, remembered your Anglia scud and what an improvement it was so definitely worth doing, especially as one unit had a blue interior and the other grey!

Tricky little job today changing the EWS yellow V on the 66 buffer beam to the Freightliner yellow,

I say tricky as for once the buffers are all firmly attached and the weathering on the body is quite heavy so I want to match it so some masking and a coat of Mig primer

Rest of the time has been spent removing numbers and nameplates from these four, 60007 is for weathering the other 3 are having new identities before weathering too. The scuds in the background have had the window mods sprayed just need the black surrounds tidying up before finally getting their decals.

I asked Steve @railtec-models to do the plates for 43308 Highland Chieftain which are now available on his website. If anybody was wondering what they look like then here you go .....

One of those plates came up for Auction not long back, I was very tempted to have a dabble but the price was eye watering!

Update from the earlier post with the Freightliner 66 getting the yellow . A couple of washes to start toning it down before I can try and match the weathering that has already been done.

In the paint shop 60007 has now had the roof and exhaust finished along with the bodysides, four different shades of dirt in there and always a challenge to weather a black roof!

Primer this afternoon with a new batch of Squirrel Projects, a couple with East Anglian connections: This Cravens will become the green celebrity set as it was in 87-88 before withdrawal

another East Anglian visitor was 47114 in its two tone green, doing two one for a customer and one which will be surplus!

last up definitely not East Anglian, a pair of SA logic locomotives, 3D prints which are going to be nice challenge!

Working on the logic locos today with the challenge of the lines from the 3D print.

The detail on these is great so don’t want to clog it up so using two different approaches.  On the left hand loco I’m just using a primer coat but the right one I have used an additional coat of Mig one shot dark primer to help highlight the lines, think either way this is going to be a long job, but worth

Another background task is stripping a 158 for its respray. Oh for the days when you could just look at a Bachmann product and the windows would just fall out! Here they  are with a pit of cocktail stick persuasion and carefully applied IPA to break the bond

otherwise both 47114 has gone into green

and 60050 is now finished

153 Rescue project. I seem to be getting more and more rescue jobs and this pair of Scuds have featured in my workbench thread for a good few weeks. They arrived in a bit of a sorry state, poor paint finish and decals being the obvious and the bodies in Rail Grey which is miles off the TFW greyC7766D62-A638-47C5-B24A-672161ECCD47.jpeg.f52f04f7376340580bec2041f919e597.jpeg

One of my friends had a loco resprayed by a supposed professional, it was one of the worst point jobs I've ever seen - grainy finish, decals all silvered, not a straight line and paint bleed everywhere.  These 153's look like they've came from the same outfit!

He tried in vain to get a refund however never got an answer to any emails or phone messages.

We all make mistakes and sometimes things that look fine to the naked eye look abysmal in pictures, but some things aren’t really acceptable. When mistakes happen and genuinely something I haven’t noticed isn’t right I will always try and resolve it at my expense but a bit of time and effort and quality control sorts things before they get out of hand. As for not answering messages or calls that’s just out of order.....

Completely agree we all make mistakes, I do a fair bit of painting myself and sometimes it just doesn't hook up!  So its a strip down and repaint - I do this with rail, car & air models.

I honestly couldn't believe the state of the finished loco.   Some of the stripped original livery was congealed in the handrail trenches, and painted over, the cantrail lining was very wonky, in the wrong place and partially missing with paint bleed from the top coats, the definition between colours was pretty bad, bleed and overspray.  Not one decal was sitting straight or wasn't silvered and some of the larger ones were starting to peel away, there appeared to be a varnish topcoat but it only covered part of the roof and part of 1 bodyside.

I ended up repainting the loco and was quite shocked to see the main bodyside colour UNDER the warning panel yellow.

The work you've done on turning them around is brilliant, all your output is brilliant, keep up the good work!

The 153's are absolutely fantastic! Can't wait to get my hands on them! I thought that the previous iteration of these were the benchmark for resprays, I was wrong, very naïve of me! I haven't got my hands on these yet although I am sure it will be soon, if there is anyone out there with a model like this honestly talk to Squirrel Rail! He's been nothing short of a true professional, has e-mailed with above and beyond communication, not just all business but also a pleasant chap too. Absolutely worth the money and I can't wait to see my Class 450 go through the same process! Thinking saving up for a 150 to put into TFW too will be coming up after if Squirrel will take it on!

Thank you again!

Many thanks for the kind words. I get things wrong and as you say sometimes there’s nothing for it but to go back to square one, frustrating but nothing else for it but start again and let the customer know. My bottom line is when I look at something I’ve done I ask would I have it in my fleet and if the answer is no then it sure isn’t going to a customer!!

Can agree with everything that’s being said here.

Everyone can and does make mistakes but to me, the attitude that comes with fixing them is what matters. As long as it’s dealt with in a professional manner, I’m happy. I’m particularly fussy so can be a bit of a nightmare but am happy to give a bit of guidance on corrections because somethings are very easily missed that even I miss them at times.

I’ve used three ‘respray specialist’ companies, including Jerry and also a fourth one if you include weathering specialists as well. I only use one for both now after either receiving unsatisfactory results or just having bad experiences with the other three. It’s pretty obvious who that person is… I wouldn’t be commenting on his RMWeb otherwise! ;)

Jerry certainly sets the bar and prooves that there’s ‘professionals’ and then there’s actual professionals. Which is a complete breath of fresh air in a community where there’s folk with falling standards. A big pet peeve of mine is people not using photos or paying attention too them when repainting or weathering a model. So many people DONT do it, it mind boggled me because if you follow a photo, nobody can tell you ‘you done that wrong!’ One company I even provided pictures to follow and they still didn’t follow them… good grief. :O

I Came across Jerry after purchasing a 90048 model from him that my friend saw for sale. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve gone back to him now.  Everything happens for a reason as they say! He recently done some correction work for me and is now currently revamping a 90047 model that a previous company didn’t do the best job with - I saw another 047 he done a few weeks ago for someone else and it put mine to shame! Can’t be having that… again, proves the difference between ‘pros’ and pros. I have a mk3 set with another company that will 9/10 chance need some tidy ups and corrections (won’t be asking who’s doing it to do it as I’m fed up with him but we will see when it turns up) but it’s nice knowing I’ve got Jerry as back up and I’d rather line his pockets rather than entertain some other idiot. even if it means paying out more money.

Fortunately for me, Jerry is pretty local and is less than an hour away so I’m quite happy to drive to drop off and pick up. This also means I get to see the rest of his wonderful work and projects come together in person. Needless to say I’ve been very jealous of some of them! Jerry’s always been very welcoming from the very first time I met him, always offering a cuppa on arrival (which is music to the ears for a tradesman!) and although I always say ‘I won’t be long,’ I always end up staying for a good couple of hours! The conversations never die or get dull, it’s always good entertainment and nice to get to know who you work with which always makes the experience better. Unlike a lot of other companies, the work place is very tidy and organised which always speaks volumes about how someone works. So for those who may get concerned, take my word for it, you have no reason to worry!

Thats my life story over. I thought this was very much needed and long overdue - as a tradesman who takes pride in customer service and satisfaction, you very rarely get to hear the good things about you so I thought I’d give a ‘mini review’ where most folks would see it!

looking forward to seeing 047 And the EWS 66 Jerry, and I’m very happy with the 66 work as well.

Cheers! :declare:
