Think I saw it on eBay - got a pretty good price , but still a bargain for the work involved and level of skill ! Hi Rob, it’s funny that the EWS 90 and big beastie had considerably less interest than the freight liner grey and RES models - perhaps that’s why Bachmann didn’t do them!!

Maybe it’s becuase the big beastie was kind of a 2006-9 thing in reality , so they were applied only briefly but obviously hung around longer after that

I’m sure I’ll think of something do with it!

Squirrel Rail
Today has been spent in prep - the 90 shell has had a funny reaction to the paint stripper - never had it before but not happy so will prep another shell and put it in the to do pile meanwhile latest project is this one:- It’s going to become 033 with the gold band higher up on the body side so lots of prep to get it ready for new maroon which has just gone on: tomorrow will be v bcc know on the Fastline 66s, but more on this one and prepping another 90 she’ll!
Squirrel Rail
Back to 58033 this morning flattening the red with wet 2500 to ensure no ridges from the old bands. This has left the latches needing a touch in but that will come later. First up was masking all the grills out followed by a coat of gold for the new band the masking was removed soon after spraying to get a nice clean edge- the smaller bits will be removed later to avoid accidents! The photo shows where the red has been flattened but after recalling and varnish it will all match and with the Factory maroon finish. meanwhile I took the opportunity to get a second coat of primer on the 90 that’s currently doing my head in. I have 90034 to do soon so this may get the same treatment but as it will most likely stay in my collection an Anglia theme may occur- who knows!
Squirrel Rail
This afternoon has seen the Fastline 66s begin their weathering. As usual I’ve reworked the factory finish exhaust as part of the process and here’s a couple of other views

Squirrel Rail
It’s a mix of metal cote steel, dark rust, bit of exhaust and black, glad you like it!! Cheers Jerry
RMweb Premium Norski Posted November 11, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 11, 2020 They are fantastic. You've been inspiring me lately. Im building my layout (first since i was a little boy) and i scratch built a bridge I'm quietly chuffed about. Been using some weathering powders on it today (also first time). Im really pleased with how it looks. Only a bit to start, cautious not to over cook it. Scenery im happy to have a go at (repercussions are generally low cost).....loco weathering i will be coming to you !

I do like Heljans' EWS Maroon, but for EW&S cant help but think its a little too dark? Did you use Pheonix for the maroon? Tempted to redo the Maroon on mine NL Edited November 11, 2020 by NickL2008

I think both rail match and Phoenix aren’t red enough when looking at photos but I’m sure they have the colours right and it’s the scale effect that makes it look a bit different! Squirrel Rail
More work on 58033 this afternoon with the addition of the black sole bar, more masking........ Then a coat of Tamiya black Then with all the masking off That should be the painting out of the way so next up numbers and branding then the weathering.
Squirrel Rail
More masking this afternoon - this time on another 90 project. The back of the cab roof is grey on the model and for what I'm doing needs to be white so out with the tape - fiddly or what... getting the angles for spraying wasn't the easiest either But with a bit of perseverance we got there - I haven't sprayed angles it just shadows. All a bit of a faff but worth it!
Squirrel Rail
Not much train time today as lots of lawns to mow but have managed to get the numbers on to 58033 and a coat of metalcote on the exhaust tonight. Front numbers on too so will start the weathering over the weekend As for this one this won't be getting any weathering....
Squirrel Rail
Weathering started on 58033 this morning - all looks a bit stark but will come together over the next few days when I blend it all together. A couple of pics to show so far and from the other side 7

Squirrel Rail
90001 is also finished, lot of little touches to get the finished article but enjoyable to go ex works for a change! 9
Richmond Park
Hi Jerry, hope all is well Great job with the Fastline 66s and the 58. I’ve still got the 58050 you did for me a few years back in EWS. The Heljan 58 really comes to life with some weathering. Have you got to tweak the front grill on LSL 90001? I think the Bachmann base model of 90005 you have used has it yellow. Keep up the good work! All the best Matt 1

Squirrel Rail
Last work today was a Bachmann 117. This is having a slight identity change in that it is losing all its "W" prefixes but retaining the same running numbers and having a new set number -T303. The first class has been declassified and new destination blinds fitted - both the blinds and set number from Railtec. That's it for a long day!
Squirrel Rail
Bit of a different model today, a white metal HST-P to paint. It’s not the best casting in the world but hopefully can make it look presentable. The casting had had a coat of primer but I have spent a while filling an rubbing down ready for a new coat of primer:-
Squirrel Rail
58033 is now complete and ready to head home: Likewise 90001 now has white horn grills and is off to it's new home this week - both been fun but slightly different finishes! 8
