Been a frustrating week either waiting for things or having to do carers duties so a quick if not very exciting update. Add to that a sore arm and feeling a bit of colour after my Covid jab  surprised what I have got done! The Chiltern bubble car is painted and decaled but waiting for replacement glass before it can be weathered and reassembled:

The Yeoman 52 has now had decals and nameplates added but working out how to do the number..

The 31 shell has had the numbers removed and the Hornby weathering has now gone from both sides so this can start to go back together..it's going to be proper banger blue

The DCR 66s are getting there, need to correct the grey above the cab on the front one. I sprayed these with Raibow Railways paints ( thanks to Ben @cambo74) for telling me about them, and really impressed with them.

Next up painting some resin MU fittings for Bachmann 37s, the detail pack versions foul an NEM coupling and with the cost of replacements seems a shame to have to cut them in half. These ones I've made have a rubber cable that doesn't interfere with the coupling and just completes the corner of the nose rather than having a hole. I tried making it loop round to the buffer beam fitting but the coupling was still a problem. Fitting the brass wire coupling method gets round this but most of my customers prefer an NEM.

Lastly two of the MPV cabs in their white and yellow. That's about it for the week so hopefully some finished stuff next week.IMG_3602.jpg.9dc60414d63670a093cd3d312619c4b7.jpg

Now I am not a fan of fictitious liveries, but I would love to see that Wizzo full size. Surprised D1010 was never painted like that when it was masquerading as D1035 Western Yeoman.

It nearly was, thats my inspiration for requesting it.

UK rail history could have been very different, but for the unions.

AIUI several westerns were separated from Swindons Scrap line, for nearly 2 years...

long enough for me to see them albeit I dont remember, my dad did get as far as putting them in my abc.

(not my picture, this is from flickr).

15/04/1978 - Swindon Works, Wiltshire.

Class 52 D1033 Western Trooper and D1070 Western Gauntlet at Swindon Works

All my life as an enthusiast I recall this story, of several westerns set aside, pending Foster Yeoman taking them, following doubts on class 56’s. The idea was eventually killed by unions who wouldn't accept drivers of locomotives that were not BR owned / maintained.

And so the 56’s came, stayed, until FY eventually broke the wall, and introduced the class 59, which lead to the 66.

my back story to this, is the 52’s, if they had been successful would probably only lasted until the 59’s anyway... whilst a livery would most likely have been the Merehead blue used on the US Switcher.. but that would not have been anywhere near as much fun...

I spent many summers near Westbury with grandparents, and my what-if had many years to think over (i had a bunch more what-ifs in mind.. Hymek is next).

heres the rudimentary artwork I gave squirrel.. turned out nice hasnt it?

Now that's instructions. Not like the vague emails i send Mr Squirrel.

Love the Westerns, handsome loco and would lend itself to a number of fictional liveries.

Hi Rob, I’ll post some other stuff to help you out!!!:good:

more western !

If Jerry is willing to take it on, Ive another Western planned after this.. no its not ARC i’ll leave that for someone else :-)

52’s were denied their rightful place in history.. correcting that would have changed the course of history for the 50’s.... and that means another livery.

The First of the pair of DCR 60's has now got most of it's decals on, next up detail pack, the other one is not far behind,

IMG_3612.jpg.53b64761bef0e2f9c7eb562e2a06bf2f.jpg

The completion today is 56057 in it's as preserved state so a nice bit of large logo blue. The base model was DCR 303 so it has had Shawplan ariels fitted to give the right V configuration and has the different hi intensity headlight and split cab front handrails, enough to make it look a bit different....

I only had the bodyshell to work with so it's just sitting on the-is chassis so I could get a couple of pics.

Some inspirations...

90001 was my 3rd last haulage 90 todate, in May 2019 GA started a new 11am express from Liverpool st to Norwich, calling only at Ipswich, and catching up the 10.30 by Norwich, so me and my daughter took it for a spin.

(check those buffers /bufferbeam out).

The 11am was followed by the 1102 running almost right behind, on the more regular schedule..Colchester, Manningtree, Ipswich and Diss

At Norwich there was further inspiration..

and a bit more..

90004 would be my 2nd last class 90 ride..

with a glimpse of the new order..

with a return taking a break at Ipswich

90012 is my last ride behind a class 90...

of course a respray of a GA 90, needs a rake and a DVT to join it.

Love it! That's a lovely looking job Jerry. Always been a fan of this livery on the 90.

Mixed bag of projects today with a number of rescue projects on the go. First up was this 20 which I thought was just for weathering but it turns out needed "some" glue marks sorting out:lol:

IMG_3636.jpg.00fba2f6826a85dcadf554d825682263.jpg

god only knows what had been stuck on there but it has been removed, new BR arrows and a base layer of fading applied, this will all get blended in with the airbrush...

IMG_3642.jpg.9577c61892942e86e7ded042496f23f9.jpg

Here's the other side together with the 31 shell which was a rescue job as it had cracked corners, now repaired, new yellow ends, numbers and fading. The third rescue job is the 90 which had a lump out of it where it looked like it had been hit with a hot soldering iron. The owner made a great job of the repair and I have resprayed the centre cant rail section, replaced the line and it is now starting to be weathered.

IMG_3640.jpg.3fc1b5f3b87f54e7875bc09b04961342.jpg

The DCR 60's have now had all their decals and I have added the bogie steps and pipework so tomorrow they will get a light weathering

IMG_3641.jpg.71793547e198024bf9c564b6fb9ae913.jpg

Last up is the London Midland 150. I have added the yellow ends today so these have to harden off for a bit but its getting there even if very slowly...
