Bit of a delayed update for the last few days as carer duties took over unfortunately but here’s what’s on the go, GBRF 60 which will become 60021

continuing with blue - Mainline blue onto a vitrains 37

more blue with a pair of FGW HSTs being renumbered and weathered

and BR blue D400 which I did sometime ago but the owner wanted a bit more dirt on the roof so that’s underway

90047 has now caught up and weathering nearly complete,

lastly this must rate as the worst model to come across my workbench - the Bachmann 166. The plastic is brittle, the windows are awful and what glue they used I have no idea, it would have made a neater job if I took it apart with a grenade:blink: it will be a silk Ouse from a sows ear this one....6BB5DE04-0A9F-4AAD-BD74-37ED27E17077.jpeg.e2b390d00cb043761a3b8cbf05751bc7.jpeg

Those powercars are looking great! The Bachmann 166 has never been a nice model to work with!
My item is coming up to you soon!

Their 166 is long overdue a retool, especially now they operate in a bigger variety of areas. I'm redoing the windows on mine as the ones supplied just arnt all good at all, good luck with it

Hi Nick, if I may ask- which windows are you using ? I’m debating casting my own resin ones but if there are alternatives out there that would be great. I tried Bachmann and they haven’t even got scrap shells! Cheers Jerry

Hi Jerry, cutting my own from clear sheet, the only problem with this is obviously painting on the hopper window frames, but I'll hopefully find a good way to replicate these

NL

That’s the other option! - I’ll have a go at resin and post some pics when I do them, cheers Jerry

Hi Jerry,

What resin do you intend on using for the windows? Its the first time I've heard anyone using resin to create windows, something I may try myself in the future

Good luck with the Class 166! Seems like an absolute pain in the @rse to work with!

I’m using a crystal clear resin with a pigment tint to try and match the Bachmann ones- using the Originals to make the moulds and go from there, problem will be keeping air bubbles out but will see how I get on, it’s got two chances:blink:

As for the 166 this will be unique as there isn’t enough tea in China to persuade me to do another!! I’ll post some pics when I do them, cheers Jerry

That's great Jerry! Like I say, good luck with the windows and the 166 there!

All looks great.

I’ll be interested to see if the mainline 37 comes out a bit more shiny than the rather drab Bachmann version. Those colours were bold  and bright when new

The Bachmann 055 model is quite flat in terms of the blue. From the photo Jerry has posted above, this better matches photos I've seen of the livery on Flickr.

Loving these projects Jerry.

While you've got D400 to hand you might want to remove the extra handrails from the front. D400 doesn't, and has never had, the two front handrails above the marker lights that all the other 50s do. No idea why, or why Hornby stuck them on.

Looks appropriately grimy either way.

Hi Rich, hope you’re well, thanks for the tip, I’ll ask the owner if he wants them removing! Cheers Jerry
