Squirrel Rail
Signal Box Interior - I haven't had time to get back on the signal box model so this morning I got the interior painted. This is for my mate Phil the signalman so he sent me some links to photos on the web of the type of panel to go in the box and a 3 LED lighting kit. I thought it would be fun to see if I could make the panel so that it was lit and also to add some basics to the walls such as a few sockets and skirting boards. Here's the panel in place and lit up. Its a bit rough and ready close up but it does the trick... I will add a few more bits to the desk area to clutter it up a bit. Chairs and tables and lockers will give Phil something to add...Here's a general view of the box, must fix the handrail... and panel in daylight:- and in the dark.. 15 2

Wow, Jerry, this is one very impresssive signalbox interior!! It's all of those tiny details that bring models to life, I especially like the desk clutter! Keep up the good work mate Jules 3

Squirrel Rail
Few completions today - first up 73202. This is pretty much immaculate apart from a little bit of weathering and the roof mods 57311 - a renumber and rename from 57309 is also finished and showing the roof... Last up, and for the first time in ages some BR Blue, a start on the weathering of 33035. 9
Squirrel Rail
Finally forgot this -the Bachmann 37422 in weathered livery no longer being weathered ...
Squirrel Rail
Phoenix RR blue now on - thought I would spray half for a comparison.... It darkens up a bit with a few more passes of the airbrush. Masking mostly off apart from the door bottoms, tiny bit of overspray on the white stripe - grrrrr. Lower bodysides or roof tomorrow - undecided which way round! Already looking so much better than the factory weathered stuff, if only they wouldn't up the windows!! Squirrel Rail
Thought I would change the profile photo from D1028 to 55004, one of my favourites...
Squirrel Rail
Not much progress on things yesterday. 37 received the lower bodyside \exec light grey and will become 37425 in it's original guise - debated resin noses to make current guise but Accurscale are covering this and it would also need a bodyside window filling.. Here's the 37 - factory gunk disappearing! Other little job was to add yellow axle boxes to the 33 - the little details count!
Squirrel Rail
Bob get's a nose job. Not the swap to resin but a decent coat of yellow and snowploughs to match. Here it is with the masking still on and without - much better - will unmask the lights and aerial tomorrow
Squirrel Rail
Made a start yesterday on the latest 90 - first off de-branding which all came off very easily. Not so the yellow and grey which is virtually bullet proof After lots of different attempts that will remain nameless managed to get a coat of fine primer on which has been rubbed down and a second coat applied: This let me get the Royal Mail red on so it can now go and marinate for a few days!
Squirrel Rail
Production has ground to a halt at the mo as waiting for worksplates for the 33, decals and plates for Concrete Bob and the paint to dry on the 90. I'm still debating liveries for the other 90s so have let them be...so took the time this afternoon to make a Delner cover for the 57 - looks all shiny and horrible but once detailed up and weathered in it will look a whole lot better. Next job was then to prep the last two batches of 87s - these are all for renumbering/naming and weathering so got them prepared so as and when I get time to do them they are ready and waiting!

Hi Rob, doing all the 35 87/0s - this is the last batch, when I started this thread it was with 4 and I’d done 6 before then. They’re going on a massive layout working push pull so are having double identities so They will be Appearing on here over the next month or so! Squirrel Rail
Quick bit of work this morning with the weathering on the Delner coupler covers - much better!
Squirrel Rail
Thought I would get concrete Bob back together this afternoon. Painted over the factory weathered bogies and then refit handrails, orange stripe across the nose and windscreen pillars and generic transfers on. Pic show it in RR livery with both old and new style OHLE flashes so went for the later style. Messed up with the data panel - on the base loco 422, it was under the nose grill where as on Bob its by the step so a tidy up called for which (luckily) will disappear under weathering. Just waiting for numbers and RR branding.. The resprayed snow ploughs look better too...
Squirrel Rail
Last work of the day was renumbering four of the 87s. You would think on a class of 36 locos (well 35 in VT Livery) that it would be straightforward. However the position of the numbers varies from loco to loco so I haven't been on the beer (yet) so that is why they aren't the same. Likewise the position of the data panel and on some its on the other end. Worst of all are 87009 and 87006 where the nameplates are on the other end to the rest leaving me the challenge of two nameplate scars to "lose". If only Hornby had done a shorter plate... Anyway here they are so far, and on the other side
BelsteadLane
More stuff on the go Jerry, very nice to see and all looking very good. Looking forward to the progress on your next 90. 048 still going strong and is still as beautiful as the day it came into my hands! Here she is after running it today on a long container train!

Hi Jack, 048 looks good in the pics - glad you’re pleased with it! Slow progress ( and no progress!) on the other 90s but plenty of electric action with the 87s! See you soon Cheers Jerry
Squirrel Rail
Bit of progress on the 87s today, first up was the plates for North Briton which come in red so needed changing to black Other plates fitted include Polmadie, Earl Marischal, Kenilworth and Coeur de Lion. There are a couple of tidy ups to do on the bodysides where the old plates and data panels were - remember this is my workbench thread so I try and show the "warts and all" so to speak! Last up is 87006 George Reynolds. Found a great pic from 2004 showing it really faded and tatty with patches so here's the start of wrecking it - looks funny with and ex works roof and chassis at the mo!! 12
Squirrel Rail
Very little railway time today as on carer duties but the RR decals have arrived from Fox so couldn't resist trying one side. Printing is great as per usual but the mini BR arrow at the end of the brand isn't very clear so will swap it out tomorrow. So much happier with the new colours than the original Bachmann 37422, can't wait to get onto the weathering!
