RMweb Premium Steven B Posted July 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2020 Built from 1951 and running right through to privatisation the British Rail Mk1 coach is an unsung work horse of Britains railways. Few vehicles on the railways have seen use as diverse as carrying Royalty to a crew of track-workers fresh from a days hard graft. Here's a chance the celebrate the humble Mk1 in model form. Please upload pictures of your Mk1 coaches in model form. Nothing RTR straight out of the box please. Weathered, repainted, cut'n'shuts, kit builds all welcome in any scale. Please no prototype images unless being used as a comparison to your actual model.

AJCT
As stated on another thread - see - here's one of the BGs which I hung on to (Rule 2 - "you can never have too much NPCCS") rebuilt to P4 using MJT torsion-bar bogies, Comet gangway end-plates and cast buffers, and SE Models flush-glazing. I might replace the glazing - some unused examples I have seem to have yellowed with age, and I should try and replicate the security bars on the insides of the windows. The BG and TSO require plastic fillets I file and lose about 0.5mm hole depth with. So far 2 TSO, 1 BSK, 1 BG, from Triang, plus the RMB and some BFK sides. Will be doing 2 more TSOs in choc cream and a couple more BGs one likely to be the HST generator car. Then I need to repair my 4MT for that set
Gibbo675
Hi Folks, Here are my as yet unpainted attempts at various types form old Triang cut and shuts featuring all of the usual types. I have eight BG-BSK conversions and between on and four of the various others depending upon type. The Triang bogie pivots have been or are to be altered to allow for correct centres and ride height and 14mm wheels fitted or where applicable rebogied with B4's or Commonwealth types. A lot of buffers and roof vents are also required ! BFK, BSO, BSK, BG FO, FK. SK, CK RDB977091 RMB, SLEP/SLF/SLSTP RDB977091 formerly BCK M21234 Gibbo. Cheers James Hi James, As you may have noted above there are all sorts of types that may be constructed from the old Triang Mk1's. The windows are of standard sizes as are the spacing of the windows in most cases, so that with prudent cutting a decent variety may be made up quite easily. In the case of some of my brake coaches I did cut out some of the smaller windows as it was less trouble than splicing in a window section. The Barrowmore diagram books give a good guide for layout of windows and seating plans although they are not truly accurate in all cases, photographs will help there. I have also built two DMUs from Triang coaches, to illustrate the versatility of the basic stock for conversion they are shewn below. Cravens 129 Parcel car from the sides of a BG on a Hornby 110 chassis, it yet requires glazing. The Cravens were the only DMU to have a MK1 body profile and they also shared window and door patterns. Swindon 123 from BSK, CK, coach sides variously spliced with Lima 73 bogies for power and Hornby B4's, Transfers and glazing to complete. The windows were reduced in depth as they are a slight shallow compared to the standard MK1 size. I would guess that Southern EMU's might give you a run for your money ! In my case the older Hornby Pullmans are good to cut and shut, even building a certain Southern EMU from Pullmans, I shall not clutter this thread up with it though ! Gibbo.

Cheers Gibbo, iv made a sudo brighton belle thing from the old triang pullmans somewhere along the lines, i think once my current odds and sods get done i might start seriously looking at coaching stock. Pity my Dads sold off a lot of the old mk1s we had.. still pretty cheap though on ebay etc.. will be watching this thread and others for cut and shut ideas. Keep up the great work everyone, hope to see this thread grow. Cheers James
