Moderators Popular Post AY Mod Posted July 16, 2020 Moderators Popular Post Share Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) On Monday 20 July Wednesday 22 July we will be starting work to migrate the site database which includes all posts and other content onto a new platform with the aim of giving better performance and less site outages. The work is to copy the existing database (which is large!) and upload it to the new platform. The existing community software (which stays where it is for now) will then point to the new location and if all works then great. If not the settings will revert to pointing to the existing database. To carry out this work it will be necessary to turn the site off so that there are no writes to the database (and hence the possibility of corruption or loss) and this will take place from 08.30 on Monday. It is hoped it may be a few hours but could, of course, be longer. Any updates whilst the site is offline will appear on our Server Update Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/RMweb-Server-Updates-205398459548735 If all goes to plan we will then look to migrate the community software and attachments etc. at a later date. We hope to keep the disruption to a minimum. Edited July 21, 2020 by AY Mod Revised date 16 3 1
RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted July 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 You mean I might actually have to do some work Monday? Best of luck, have done a few migrations. I usually need a lie down in a dark room afterwards. 5
RMweb Gold pirouets Posted July 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) I concur with my learned colleague above on both points. Might have to take the day off instead and go in the shed. Edited July 16, 2020 by pirouets 3
F-UnitMad
I note use of the phrases "it is hoped" & "if all goes to plan"... As Spike Milligan would've said - Good luck, you're going to need it. 5 3

It's amazing how something that boils down to a pile of 0s and 1s can be so damned complicated and not do as you expect/want/beg. 5
RMweb Gold Joner Posted July 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 You mean I've got spare time do some actual modelling and not read other people's triumphs? And the kids are on holiday so no home schooling! I may have to start my man cave! 1

RMweb Premium rab Posted July 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 16, 2020 I'll have to set my alarm so that I wake up early enough to have my morning read of the forum before it's turned off. Oh wait a minute, that means I'll have a longer time to manage without it. Looks like that wall the wife's been nagging about might get painted on Monday. 1
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted July 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 I am seeing my doctor at midday on Monday - only routine, I hope. I am English, but this is France, and she is Spanish. For all I know the RMweb servers are on the Moon. Life is so cosmopolitan these days. 2 2

RMweb Gold Ralf Posted July 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 I would say I might actually find time to do some modelling but I'll actually be at Statfold Barn photographing the real thing on Monday so no chance of modelling happening - as usual!
