OK; yesterday's issue is believed to have been identified so we are going to go for it again on Wednesday morning. Therefore the site will be offline from 08.30 again.

That is 330A here, I have absolutely NO plans to be up and online at that time! Good luck and I hope that all goes well.

03.30?  A good time for comet-watching here currently.  Also a fairly normal time to be woken by the student neighbours coming home from somewhere - but not currently.

An engineer’s possession in the morning rush hour won’t be popular! :D

Jokes aside, best of luck with the maintenance and hopefully second time lucky.

I'm slightly shocked that your provider can't replicate the database in the background without a large outage. Most cloud database providers (e.g. Amazon RDS) offer read replicas which can be promoted and made into your primary database if you need.

Anyway, good luck tomorrow!

Investigations centred around a combination of a hole and it overflowing leaving a puddle of DJM to be mopped up.

Ick.

Coreless I hope ;)

I should imagine the puddle buzzed a bit as it spread its sticky self all over the place...  :(

You can't take an accurate copy whilst allowing the site to be open for posting and other actions; ever tried counting a field of moving sheep?

Easy. Count the legs and divide by four.

As ever, always estimate using the Scotty method. Always multiply your estimates by 4 and then when you do it in half the time, you're a miracle worker....

Seriously though, hope it works second time around tomorrow. Good luck.

Good luck Andy. Did we wear out the server with all the extra traffic during lockdown?

More seriously, how much did traffic increase over the lockdown period and has it yet reverted back to the same sort of level as this time last year?

Best wishes

Eric

Seems pretty smooth at present.

No delays when posting content, I'll just try a picture too.

Copied over, and posted without any hesitations.

(Just put the bit-bucket under the left-hand corner if you would be so kind...)

I can't post a reply in one thread I'm following

The thread is "Freiwald Traincontroller"

I "Submit Reply" and nothing happens.

Even editing this post has taken several attempts as it wasn't right to start with.

EDIT

Managed to reply in "Traicontroller" thread at about the 6th attempt.

There are evidently some speed/loading issues once users have come back onto the site. We are working on it.

Just like real railways - everything works fine without the passengers!

Depends on your database and storage system technology.   We moved our business system's 4Tb database from New England to Texas with an outage of around 10 minutes last year, but to get that capability we pay eye watering sums for software and support.

It's primarily a matter of counting all the sheep in two duplicate databases for a few days right up to the move.
