Tanllan
I came across this tank, adjjacent to a public footpath, while out for a walk. To me it would appear to have been rail part of a railway vehicle and has now been repurposed for storing liquid fertilizer. It is on the margin of a farm and there is road access close by. The bracing Tee section welded along the length to the lower side of the tank has clearly been gas cut away from some other structure. I have looked at Paul Barlett's photos but cannot find a picture of a rail tank wagon there where the vestigial part of the bracing Tee section wraps as far round the end. Fat Controller
Certainly looks like a re-used tank barrel to me. I can see what you mean about those t-strips; I did find this one-off on Paul's site:- https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/bpo73060
Mark Saunders
Looks like the cylinder of a 45 ton glw mono block tank .
hmrspaul
I disagree with my friend Mark that this is conventional. This sulphuric acid tank is a possible - the barrel looks to be of less diameter than a fuel oil/petroleum tank and has the reinforcement at the end - and the little eyelet part way along the side. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/trlsulphuricacidtta Some BRT tanks had similar re-inforcing, but rather more of a buttress https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brttanks/e1e09b633 https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brttanks/e6391492e Paul

See picture below. Thanks for all the replies. Something like this would make a nice lineside feature on a model railway.
