Why don't Hornby produce a Gresley A1 Flying Scotsman in the full detail Hornby Railways range. Yes the do the A3 version of Flying Scotsman in Hornby Railways full detail range but why not the 4472 in the A1 class.

My money is waiting for an as restored to LNER livery for Alan Pegler 1963-5 version

Never thought of this before,  but I could get away with running one like that as I'm doing late sixties but a bit tight as it went to the US in 69

R3736 not good enough?  c1923 form, or are you as G BOAF asks, wanting a 1928-on version with lowered cab and chimney but still r/h drive? I guess you would need a 4475 'Flying Fox' and re-naming re-numbering , and suitable corridor tender.... not sure which model would be the cheapest donor.

Here is R3736

and here is a photo-edited 4475 renamed etc     will remove if required.

I presume this is a bit like what you are after?

IMHO one of the first two A1s in GNR livery is long overdue.

1470 'Great Northern' years ago was done and is still around s/h albeit in LNER livery... Hattons photo.

Is the GNR livery hugely different apart from tender sides?

Only if they think they will sell .

NRM still have the C1 in GNR livery for sale, after how many years ?. The GNR livery is different from the LNER version but only slightly , compared to say SR and SECR liveries a different ballgame for the punter.

Not as different as SR and SECR, granted, but you’d never mistake one for the other.

I would be happy with the same tooling of the railroad tts Flying Scotsman  version.

So what you are actually after (in more precise terms than you original post) is a 1928 condition Scotsman, i.e. with A1 boiler, Composite Loading Gauge (reduced height cab, dome, chimney, bufferbeam cut outs), Right Hand Drive, Corridor Tender.

Correct this has not been done by Hornby.

Which is surprising. It was the 'stock scotsman' of the Margate in 1980s and 1990s.

What do you mean they don’t have an A1 in the range. They have plenty of A1’s. Robs pictures are both A1 class in the main range.

Oh, I see what you mean now.

If Hornby are going to do an A1 rather than an A3 as a Railroad model, they may do FS, though two FS in Railroad guise (as an A1 and as an A3) might be confusing to some buyers as Railroad is targetted at "beginners".  If they DID release an A1 in Railroad, it might be more appropriate to use a different loco, perhaps choosing one that stayed in A1 form* until scrapped so it could carry a mind-boggling range of liveries...

*  IANAL but I suppose some must have.

Here  is another of those main range A1s...  as mentioned 2569 'Gladiateur' available from time to time second hand, as this one was.

And I’d hazard a guess that that one is in 1928 condition, suitable for what Donny is looking for.

Indeed.  So far as I know. I'm a bit confused and presume Donny ants one like that with the correct 4472 and name.

If you want a Railroad Flying Scotsman there is the recent R3086 , this is a Hattons photo,  Not a bad model , no ski jump here. :)

If Hornby decide to backdate the model, why not go right back to when it first appeared in GNR livery, GNR tender with rails and numbered 1472?
