Having been turned round, 09017 takes a break between shunting duties.

My ballast arrived today so I'm going to do it in the next few days after dealing with the backscene and bridge.

I hope you don't take this as anything other than constructive. There is a place here on RMWeb for your work-in-progress photos and they are surely of interest but this thread is not the place. What people are aspiring to here are images of their models which are as near as possible indistinguishable from photos of the real thing. It is not something i have managed to produce thus far so it is an aspiration for me too. Keep up the good work

Cheers

David

It’s hard to do realistic modelling in N but here is my attempt.

That top pic is gorgeous, well-lit and goes well with the backscene. A quick glance and it looks just like a genuine 70's-era shot on the Cornish main line

Up and down loops, lower quadrant signals, camping coaches, river estuary; inspired by Dawlish Warren I presume? Excellent modelling and photos.

Thanks for the nice comment and yes indeed it is my best effort at Dawlish Warren. Here are a few more photos that I don’t consider are quite worthy of this thread but may be of interest in showing just a little more of the layout.

These couldn’t be taken as being real rather than being a model so don’t qualify as being top drawer realistic. On the other hand they do portray a recognisable replica of a real place so maybe that makes it realistic in a slightly different way.

Chris, I think you are doing yourself a disservice. Given that it's N gauge l think this is excellent.

That first shot of the Hymek arriving on the up platform brings back some memories. When I was a youngster my family had some holidays down there. At the time, the building on Dawlish Warren’s up platform was occupied by the South Devon Railway Museum complete with a large OO model railway. Through visiting many times I got to know the two men that ran the place and eventually I was allowed to operate the railway. It was a very impressive layout; the normal operating sequence started with GWR trains and gradually moved forward to the present day. I can still remember how the building would shake when a train passed through. And in the last picture you’ve done a good job on the Mount Pleasant Inn. Well done!

And Double headed Warship, what's not to like, stunning works.

Can someone remind me what this thread is called :scratchhead:

Totally agree with this statement, I'm starting to get bored with scrolling through the

obvious Work-in-Progress pictures, and the ones with the tension lock couplings on

show, just to find the inspiring pictures, that are difficult to tell from the real thing!

Not the intention of my post to put people off posting, but to encourage them to start their

own threads, showing how they make their models.

I would like to see how you got your buildings to that standard, but until they are 'planted'

in position on a layout they can't really be considered for this thread, no disrespect intended.

I've always considered this thread, and the similarly named 'How realistic are your models?'

to be the showcase of finished layouts (and models) that are indistinguishable from the real

thing, and are something to aspire to. But they are quite often backed up by layout threads

and workbench threads, which are invaluable to appreciate how you got there.

Good points there, no offence taken.

Your actual buildings do look superb, and far better than anything I would attempt, but as said, if in a Layout thread then others can learn from you obvious skills and once scenic work is complete, or nearly, then the pics will inspire many to reach your standards.

All the best.
