Broadoak
An SP Cadillac, actually, an EMD SD7 noted by the crews for being very comfortable hence the name. She is seen in the yard at Benson Arkansas. I like the proportions of these low powered but useful locomotives, they have the feel of a steam engine to my mind. I think it’s the long hood reminiscent of a boiler. Popular Post Chris M
Another couple of pan shots. I’m using a smartphone for these as that’s all I’ve got that takes sharp photos and I can’t override the aperture so far as I know. The only locos I have that will go fast enough to make pan shots are the HSTs and that were at full chat for these photos. 20 1
Popular Post Ben B
Not sure if this counts as realistic per-se, but it was done for a previous photography project to try and capture a particular atmosphere. When I was at Uni the main way I afforded to travel back home to the Midlands from Carlisle was at night, on cheap tickets that often involved standing around in the eye-stinging cold on some barren station platform late at night, watching express trains whizz past whilst waiting for my connection. That concept led me to this, ramping-up the abstract angle a bit. The stock is mostly Lima 0/Triang Big-Big, the towerblocks are plastic crates with masking tape, backlit with spotlamps and LED torches, and the rest of it is a mix of Christmas lights and Tomy Trains working signals 16 5

Broadoak
A Kodachrome 2000hp EMD GP38-2 in the bright merger colours that never happened. The merger being between the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific, some locos were painted with the SPSF some suggested this meant shouldn’t paint so fast. Several hundred locos from both companies were painted in fact. Photo Peter M Peter M 12

Broadoak
Captain Kernow, your photograph is absolutely superb. As indeed is the model itself. Most realistic. Kind regards Peter M

Perhaps this makes it a little less obvious?

Broadoak
A bird’s eye view of the East yard at Benson showing a Burlington & Northern end cab yard switcher still wearing its original Great Northern paint job. She is pushing a cut of empty pulp wood cars into the loading siding, where the pulp wood is loaded directly from trucks. The loaded cars are then taken south on the Rock Island line to a large mill in Louisiana were the lumber is pulped for making board or paper. Popular Post Ben B
Sometime in the early 1980's, in a place that's not-quite the Holyhead Breakwater, a battered shunter propels three flat wagons of stone out towards the overhead crane near the lighthouse... (A shoot in the sunshine today, on a cameo layout inspired by Holyhead Breakwater. Just a little lockdown project done with scrap and second-hand bits after an inspiring visit to the remains of the real thing last year. Couldn't stretch to a kit of the Holyhead 01, but Vintage Carriages had a lovely little Hornby Barclay in their second-hand cabinet, and it got a respray. I really wanted to shoot this last year, but within a week of getting home West Yorkshire went into the Tiers that meant we couldn't travel to Wales, so no location shoot at the seaside. I managed a shot at a nearby reservoir, at Ponden, but it wasn't sunny enough, and then the next restrictions hit, so it's taken me until today to be free, and able to travel back there, on a sunny day! Also treated the shot to a bit of post-production with a filter to make it look more like a vintage pic, not something I usually do but it seems to have worked here.) 21 2
