Here is our latest project, on a Plux 22 designed to work the new Bachmann 121 Bubble Car.

You wait ages for a new video and then two come along at once...! A new Leyland DMU project was long overdue from me so here we are. Featuring no less than seven different user-configurable sound features, each set by a different CV as follows;

Choice of 4 different high horns

Choice of 4 different low horns

Choice of 2 different AWS sounders

Choice of 2 different handbrake warning buzzers

Choice of 2 different firebells or a fire buzzer

Choice of 2 different handbrake on ratchets

Choice of 2 different handbrake off ratchets The intention is to expand this selection in future versions as editing time permits. The engine sounds were recorded from a particularly nice raspy unit at Llangollen using two separate mics (engine and exhaust).

Demonstrated here are;

Door slam (F6)

AWS sounder (F20)

2-engine start-up (more starts can be triggered for power-twins etc)

Reverser hiss and clunk Passenger doors

(F6) Toilet flush (F8) Handbrake warning buzzer

(F14) Firebell

(F15) Handbrake apply

(F16) Handbrake release

(F17) Auxiliary heater

(F13) Windscreen wipers

(F12) Despatch whistle

(F10) Right-away buzzer

(F11) Playable horns

(F2 & F3) Full power departure

The model in the video shows you what an OO gauge DMU should sound like, unlike the pitiful efforts in recent factory-fitted releases. It has an EM2 in the body and a single-Dumbo style speaker in the underframe.

LU tube stock file defo needed now that Bachmann have announced the partial retool of the EFE models with Plux22 sockets!

with the amount you can cram onto a V5, varied files could be created to suit different tube stock by having alternative compressor, whistle and door noises

Hear is one we have hade for a while but has been very popular, your thoughts.    Charlie.

Nice DMU sounds; but is it possible to change up through the gears manually, and vary the length of acceleration sound between each gear?  We can only hear first gear in this video.

To be able to gauge whether this one is an improvement on your previous version or other projects, it would be good to hear the DMU in action on a layout if possible, rather than just on a short piece of track.

I see this video from 2010 features the original version of your DMU project (which I did purchase at the time).

Whilst the sound was quite good, it featured an unprototypically short length of first gear acceleration (which can be heard on this video) that couldn't be "held".   It sounded good when moving around the depot (or on a low speed preserved railway!) but not for the main line.

Does your latest version enable the user to change up through the gears manually, and vary the length of acceleration sound between each gear?

Yes you can change up through the gears manually. You can stay in the same gear for as long as you like and the revs will steady at the constant speed you have selected on the throttle. The easiest way to gear change is to reduce the throttle to a low value, and once the revs have started to drop off, increase the throttle to select the next gear you want. There are several gears, selected by how far up your initial throttle movement is. Once the engine has set off in the gear you want, re-adjust the throttle for the actual speed you want. It's much harder to explain than to do in practice, but once you realise how it works you can drive it how you like, in a very realistic manner.

The highest speed setting (the one featured in the video) has an automatic gear change part-way through, but you don't have to use that at all if you don't want to, and you can do 'normal' gear changes before or after it.

That is very useful information, thank you. I'd like to try one of your new projects in one of my older Bachmann Class 105 models which has an 8 pin socket. Can you supply on 8 pin please?

Just thought I would pop this on here, as people keep asking 'Can we do sounds fot the Hattons 66'

The Answer is YES, as we can supply the ESU Sound Decoder & Rail Rumble Speakers (EM2 Spk)

This project has allowed us to completely renew our older Class 66 projects to bring it upto date.

Roy, I will check properly tomorrow but I’m fairly sure my MNR 47 project does still feature the choice of a normal roof fan or the very loud ones that the ‘Generator’ 47’s had. Changeable via CV from memory. I will report back on that asap.

And just to correct a point that Charlie made above; it’s not necessary to change CV’s for a 47/7, the extra sounds are enabled by default. I’ll send him a company memo on both counts!
