Wummyock
Probably a very random question but how hard (if at all?) and what would be involved converting P4 stock back to 00 gauge? Tia for any answers to my query.
Wheatley
It depends how long your piece of string is. Re-wheeled RTR stock could be as simple as changing the wheels, anythi g on a kit built or scratch built chassis could be very difficult to impossible. Steam locos will generally need the chassis rebuilding as the frames will be too far apart to take OO wheelsets even if the rest is suitable. A lot depends on the original builder. Did you have anything specific in mind ?
Wummyock
Looking at some kit built wagons listed on EBay Wheatley. Going by your response I might be better off avoiding them...
RMweb Premium JDW Posted August 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2020 Do you have a link to the Ebay listings? I think the same applies, but for wagons if its something with modernish H-frame bogies, it should be a simple job. If its older stock with brake shoes and rigging lined up with the wheels it might be harder but unless they're inside-framed (like some modern low track force bogies) it shouldn't be impossible. As @Wheatley says, it depends on how they were built.

RMweb Premium njee20 Posted August 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) Many of their wagons appear to be RTR (ignore the description, there are Bachmann FIAs and Dapol IKAs in there for a start), but with modified bogies - looks like they've cut the old sideframes off and put them on a wider 'stretcher' part. Therefore some fettling certainly required to get them back to OO, not insurmountable though. Edited August 16, 2020 by njee20
Wheatley
Agreed, the bogie stock should be do-able, even the KFAs don't look as though there's anything in the way (although it's a terrible photo !). At worst you'll need a job lot of new bogies. The (not P4) GWR tram is hilarious.
