sir douglas
I would like to make a model of a Caledonian 7 ton (such as below) in o gauge, is it the same as the North British 8 ton? but just with outside W iron instead. i have a drawing for the NB, can i use that? JeremyC
Invertrain have a kit for one https://invertrain.com/product/caledonian-7ton-dumb-buffered-coal-wagon/ Edited August 20, 2020 by JeremyC
DOCJACOB
Pretty sure exactly the same was discussed on CRASSOC forum recently as the NBRSG extended availability of the 8ton 4mm wagon kit to CRASSOC members. I think the short answer was no due to the W iron issue
sir douglas
as said i have a drawing for the Nb but wanting to do the CR is because i have set of second hand axleboxes that match
duncan
As Jeremy says, the Invertrain kit is available - I have built some - recommended Jacob is right, too many differences from the NB bogie, see https://www.crassoc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1517
sir douglas
with only their comments and without any prototype photos or drawings, i'm going ahead and assume its close enough and ive started building it
MarcD
These wagon are a bit of a can of worms. The drawings are more or a guide to building than a GA. So work from a photo rather than the drawing. There were some white metal kit done by Oldbury in the 1990's but they are of their time. Marc
MarcD
CR ones are drawn and photgraphed in the CR wagon book. Marc
sir douglas
i was going to say im not spending £30 on a book just for one wagon but just by chance the sample image for the book on Lightmoor's website is a 7 ton drawing https://lightmoor.co.uk/books/caledonian-railway-wagons-and-non-passenger-coaching-stock/L9747 now i have a drawing i can see that (at least this version) is about a foot longer than the NB and the door is in the middle but as in that thread says, the door moves about on different versions. im going to follow this drawing but move the door to the left like the Highland Castings, and about the kit, its my fault for not adding that i want to scratchbuild
MarcD
Sam just remember these wagons taper. that's not shown on the drawing as its missing the end view. Marc

RMweb Premium Compound2632 Posted August 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2020 (edited) 7 hours ago, sir douglas said: i was going to say im not spending £30 on a book just for one wagon Think of it this way: "building this wagon gives me the excuse to buy another wagon book". And of course once you've got the book, you'll end up building half-a-dozen Caledonian wagons at least, so it'll have been a good investment!
