I must admit that it is over 50 55 years since I walked along that path underneath the viaduct and then up Monsal Dale but I think the path back then was a lot more grey and dusty in colour. Ravenstor YHA at the head of the Dale was a superb spot for night time train watching and listening - virtually no other sounds and a good view down the dale from the men's dormitory; you could hear an approaching freight as it emerged from the tunnel and then thrashed its way up the bank.

SimonPS2025
Does anyone have any photos of the underpasses on the Millers Dale station. I know they were used instead of the tradition footbridge, but cannot find any pictures apart from one from the 1980's which just shows th stairs in a delerict state. I intend to model Millers Dale in OO gauge, so any pictures would be most helpful.

If you are, you could submit a request for information via the quarterly newsletter; I think you would get an informed response. Also, check out the material held by the Midland Railway Study Centre. apbolton
The disused station site has one derelict photo from the 70's, showing the interior and the Midland Railway Study Centre has 2 of the outside of the stairs on platforms 1 & 4, these are the only ones I have come across.

LNER4479
Another visit to the heart of the Peak District today... The previously plain piece of plywood fascia was marked and cut, together with a further piece of ply for the river bed ... ... and here we have the start of Chee Dale. A few more support pieces and some polystyrene chunks for rock faces and we're ready for some more chicken wire. I think it won't be long before we're seeing some more mod roc.
apbolton
Oh yes, a couple of hours later and 7 rolls of Hobbycraft plaster roll and here you are. Looks like a heavy snowfall in Chee Dale, May be a while before I get the brown plaster layer done, wot with Xmas and all but who knows.
Reinder
Nice to see a update again on this interesting layout. Especially when i am making it in N-gauge. Really like those smooth curves

Some plans (although they didn't always build according to the plan...): and a couple of pictures: (I don't recall where I got all these from, so apologies if they are not appropriate to post here...) Just need to get that little gap filled then that's going to look great as the lead in and backdrop to the Monsal Head scene
apbolton
Funny you should say that, I thought the same so after my tea I went back out and filled it in. Using the tried and trusted methods, plywood formers and chicken wire, here is the finished view. This means that I can continue on with the scenery from Monsal Head, whenever I have time.

Rob (also building MD - in N, in Australia) Many thanks for posting these photographs and plans of Millers Dale - I'm trying to build a layout based on the station. Would it be possible for you put copies of the drawing into the file section? Peterfgf

RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted December 23, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 23, 2021 Somehow missed your latest update, Paul. The scenery is coming along really well. It will look great once the greenery appears. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Reinder
Any progress on the layout?
apbolton
Not a lot of progress since my last post, been rather busy with other things. However since you asked Reindeer, here a few photos. Firstly started to add the grass on chee Tor, just a bit for now will be back at it soon. Although I have not done much on the actual layout I have several things on my workbench that I am working on, I don't usually post things part done but since you asked. This is the bridge between the tunnels 1 &2 at chee Tor. This was a test fit the other day, still needs its abutment pillars to complete it. This is the start of the last piece of the station building on platform 1, still a long way to go but progressing slowly each week Rear view above, front view below.
Reinder
This layout remains a inspiration for my version of Miller's Dale and its surroundings. After seeing your Bridge i also decided i would need it. So pretty busy on building it on a removable section. I am really interested in seeing how your station is developing and the making of the platform. Especially with the curves
LNER4479
Recent update from a combination of two visits. We've been concentrating on the Chee Dale end, trying to get the as scenery structure in place. This includes a removable section to get at the tracks beneath, just in case! Paul's been following me round with the first pass scenic covering. Edited June 16, 2022 by LNER4479

apbolton
Since Graham's last visit I have managed to complete the initial coverage of the latest piece of landscape, plenty more to do on it but I think you can get the idea.
