The new stock is well under way and being delivered during early 2021.1140389787_Class484001-Island-Line.jpg.ecf291e359b983566dc215275d0227c7.jpg

Look smart dont they.  As great as it is that they are being converted to AC motors, its a shame for LU modellers like me as it means a sound recording wont be useable on LU D stock.

When Bachmann proposed the EFE Rail Unit I put this forward.

He was cool on the idea but I think he needed a break away from home.  We have been doing recordings over the last 7 weeks in:

Exeter  (143s & 150s)

Bristol  (IEP & 170s)

Westbury  (59's)

Weymouth  (SR Electrics)

Salisbury  (170s & 159s)

& of course Ryde. (Ex LT Stock)

Only a single tenshodo in that motorised 4 car set.

unless your track is perfectly straight and level, it will struggle!

Mine had 2 and still struggled. It went back 3 times before I accepted it, even then the motors were fighting and running at different speeds...leading to getting warm. They only moved when at full speed, wheel slipping.

I found no end of pain in those conversions.

the resolution would have been to through wire them, so they ran in paralell, but that would mean rigging up wiring, that would allow uncoupling,  through the centre coaches.. I had better things to use my modelling time on, and it would still be under powered, and rubbish on curves.

First reduced it to 3 car, then 2, then the drawer and finally ebay. Only consolation was that I got all my money back in the sale thanks to a bit of inflation.

Eagerly awaiting Bachmanns efforts.

The EFE/Bachmann 1938 tube train is in the shops now. One criticism is that the bodies are raised for the cars to negotiate sharp model railway curves, this makes them look a bit gangly. For the I-o-W stock this might not be so bad as I understand that the bodies were raised two or three inches before they went to the island.
