Starting off class 50 juddering

I have run the Hornby class 50 on dc for many years, later on converted it to DCC. No Problem.  I have recently fitted a Hornby sound decoder. Using a Bachmann controller, the loco set for 14 speed steps. When the speed is set at 1/14 the loco judders, the distance varies from 10 to 25mm. Increasing the speed to  2/14 the control is perfect from then on up to 14/14.

Any ideas please.
Thanks

Agree, using 128 speed steps is far better.

Also changing CV150 to 1 (default is 0) usually cures juddering.

Yes - had the same problem with mine even in 128 speed steps you need to change CV150.

A work around is to bypass the speed steps that cause juddering. For my tts 50 (on 128) the problem steps were 1-3 and 7-9. With this method it still started slowly on 4 and accelerated smoothly from 6 to a slow crawl at 10.

I have had problems with my two TTS decoders. Sometimes the CV150 won't change for some reason on these chips. I wouldn't recommend them. I've had no problems with Bachmann or specialist DCC sound suppliers.
