ianwales
Hi all I want to re-livery a Dapol N gauge 153 as per the current Transport for Wales livery, I think I have 2 options, repaint and use TFW transfers(If they are available) or use Electra Vinyl sides, could I ask for some opinions regarding the pros and cons of each approach please? RMweb Premium njee20 Posted September 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 13, 2020 I assume you saw my response on the NGF... Vinyls are quicker to apply (I won’t say easier, as it depends a bit!), but obliterate surface detail. On the 153 that’s a real shame IMO, as you lose all the raised rivet detail. Decals can give a better finish, but depends on your painting ability. The 153 is notoriously hard to disassemble, which leaves you grappling with glazing etc. I’m a big fan of Electra vinyls on the right model, but both have a place IMO. I’ll add: if you have no experience of either then vinyls are almost certainly going to yield a more satisfactory result, but with practice painting will generally be better. justin1985
It's a shame Adam of Electra doesn't use his artwork to produce full-side waterslide decals, instead of vinyl. It might need two layers (white blanking layer + livery layer) but the result would be much better.

ianwales
Are the windows cut out on the Electra Vinyls or are they completely flat?
