RMweb Premium uax6 Posted September 19, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 19, 2020 I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I can remember reading a website that described the BR basic railways and in particular the Lynn Hunstanton one. I can't for the life of me remember what that website was, and I can no longer find it with google. Does anyone have any clues please? Thanks Andy G

RMweb Premium uax6 Posted September 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 20, 2020 Thanks for that Richard, its a fascinating piece of paper! I find it a bit strange that every crossing has a track cct Y and Z, surely something that would cause confusion at some point. The layout at Hunny is also an interesting one, I wonder if it was to allow loco and coaches to run to the station, propel back into the sidings and then run round 'locked inside' so allowing the normal service to run without hindrance? Did this ever happen? What would be interesting would be to see how much all this work was costed at, and the expected savings to be gained, with effectively only the crossing keeper at Hunny remaining (and presumable acting as some grade of signalman?). It might be worth sending this to the pressure group who are hoping to reopen the branch..... ;-) Andy G

RMweb Premium uax6 Posted September 22, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 22, 2020 Lovely picture Richard. Do you happen to have any details of the style of light units and equipment that was fitted at both the OACL's and AHBC's please? Andy G
LNERGE
No I’m afraid not. I would be interested in seeing that myself.
Chris Turnbull
Fascinating stuff as always on RMWeb but, getting back to the original question, perhaps you meant the BFI film "John Betjeman Goes by Train"? If you Google this title there are lots of websites showing this film. Here's one of them: http://www.eafa.org.uk/catalogue/76 Chris Turnbull
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted September 25, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 25, 2020 Sadly not, that film was taken before it became a basic railway... Andy G
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted September 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2020 I’ve found a side on view of the lights and crossing at Heacham on the last day: https://www.heachamnewsletter.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/May-2019-News.pdf looks like a Gloucester 100 unit doing the honours. Here’s one that looks like it’s taken in the other direction that shows the drivers warning lamp: https://www.becclesandbungayjournal.co.uk/news/rural-rail-lines-closed-in-1960s-could-be-reopened-1-5301530 The full barrier crossing on Gaywood Road, the light units look very continental: https://www.kingslynn-forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6667&hilit=Lynn+%26amp%3B+Hunstanton+Railway&start=585 and a face on view of them being installed: https://www.kingslynn-forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6667&hilit=Lynn+%26amp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3B+Hunstanton+Railway&start=15 in fact it’s worth just scrolling through that forum as there are lots of photos... Cracking shot of the road lights here: https://www.kingslynn-forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6667&hilit=Lynn+%26amp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3Bamp%3B+Hunstanton+Railway&start=570 Andy g
