I am after some inspiration for prototypes I can adapt to fit a small layout I am planning.

I am have a few criteria in mind:

00 4mm scale

Using Peco Bullhead code 75 (I know the points are big but they look very good to me)

Set in the last 10 years

Industrial freight operations

Layout size 6' by 18" plus 3' fiddle yard - or there abouts.

Makes use of available wagon types

Ideally short trains...

I have come up with a few ideas:

China clay

Cement works

Cement distribution point

Ready mix distribution point

Boston Docks

Any ideas welcome!

How about a small aggregates terminal. Here's the one I built I last year. The measurements are similar 9ft (including fiddle yard) x 15ins.

The inspiration came from the small'pop up' DB terminal at Warrington.

I'm currently planning a new layout with the same dimensions, so I'm also looking for ideas.

Hi

There are many examples of small layouts of the type you are looking for in this Forum. This can help select a track plan, and you can then change the industry to suit your wishes.

If your looking for prototype examples - how about these, although you may need to imagine that the traffic lasted a few years longer to keep with your time frame:

Workington docks - Used for local paper/board industry - tank cars of chemicals in, vans for finished product. Has also been used for coal, steel and perhaps nuclear products (although most went via Barrow docks) - its your railway.

Waterloo Goods - Aberdeen or Raith Farm sidings just up the road in Dyce. China clay slurry but other general traffic as well.

A good selection of photos from these sites on the internet.
