RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2020 Started this evening using a Dapol 60’ LMS coach as the base and Worsley Works etched sides. Cheers Darius
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted September 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2020 Very fine top lip to the etch above the doors- they should stiffen but good luck. Really just like Duncrue works, will the roof need a bit of drastic action - photo I have in Diesel dawn shows a flatter roof. Looking forward to progress, it will look at home behind the 70 class railcar heading to Larne and the ship.
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 22, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2020 (edited) Hi Robert, I am going to fabricate plasticard sides to the recessed centre door and even more recessed plated over end doors, with top caps to stiffen the thin etched profile. The Dapol roof will need the ribs and vents removing (as was done for the 70 Class) and I plan to flatten the roof profile a bit to give it the “look” of the MED roof before adding replacement vents. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 24, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2020 (edited) Primer on and ribs sanded away from roof. I replaced the Dapol plastic wheels with Hornby metal ones. Cheers Darius Edited September 24, 2020 by Darius43 Fitted smaller diameter wheels 6
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted September 24, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2020 This looks very good , and a coat of NIR red will do the honours , pretty certain Railtec Steve has done the decals as well. All I managed today was 6 ladders onto the three bogie cements and added the air pipe down the side but more to do. Robert

I have a set of the Railtec transfers - ordered at the same time as the Worsley sides. Red NIR maroon already airbrushed on and drying nicely. I have also added plasticard ventilators to the roof and primed it. Cheers Darius Edited September 24, 2020 by Darius43
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 25, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 25, 2020 Railtec transfers applied and window glazing installed. Roof painted and fixed in place. All done bar some light weathering. Cheers Darius 5
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted September 25, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 25, 2020 Tidy sharp modelling of unusual vehicle, just a bit of rail grime to knock off the exworks look and it will look good behind a railcar to Larne or a DH being shunted. Thanks for showing.

jhb171achil
I like the two together - I remember seeing a two-coach train with two of these on the back..... like a Donegal mixed train - railcar, trailer and a couple of vans!

Perhaps it was this train as per the photo of a pair at Great Victoria Street on Kirley’s MED parcels car thread. Cheers Darius
jhb171achil
Could very well have been, Darius! It seemed to me that immediately preceding the abolition of parcels traffic on the GNR, they were busier than ever. A three-car AEC set, with a brake 3rd with large van as a centre car, could have THAT full of stuff being unloaded at Lisburn, Lurgan and Portadown - as WELL AS two or three "brown vans" at the back, or one of these ex-MED vans. Sometimes one brown van, sometimes one bogie - as far as I am aware - or can remember - I only saw the two bogies on the back of a train once. On another note, a few years earlier, it was possible to see a three coach railcar set on the GNR with each vehicle in a different livery; UTA blue and cream, UTA green, and NIR maroon and grey.
