RMweb Gold halsey Posted September 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2020 Why do my locos all run at very different speeds even if the DCC controller setting is set the same and the various "std" CV settings are set the same. This is particularly evident on "top" speed where some run too fast and some are too slow - do I need to adjust the more specialist setting - I'm truly apprehensive about doing this but I appreciate that I can reset CVs so I'm not averse to playing
34theletterbetweenB&D
There is no standard for maximum speed on RTR locos, you get what the manufacturer decides to supply. On 12V DC I have locos that topped out at 90mph in service able to easily make scale for 200 mph, and others that struggle for 60mph. Trimming down the maximum speed using CV5 is simple enough. If the change required is large - such as half the default setting - then setting CV6 to a value somewhere in the region of a third to a half of the CV5 setting typically results in a better speed curve. But all very much a matter of personal taste and operational requirements what settings you use. devondynosoar118
When you adjust CV’s start by writing down the pre set value, then adjust in smaller increments. Messing with the speed curve or table cannot damage the loco, it just might not run as you want it.
