RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted September 25, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 25, 2020 (edited) As a postscript to the Virtual Scaleforum show tomorrow (Saturday): https://www.scaleforum.org/ https://www.scalefour.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=78726#p78726 I'm intending to provide an online Templot workshop/dabble session. I'm planning to broadcast my computer screen from about 7pm tomorrow (Saturday) and continue for most of the evening. I shall be dabbling with Templot and nattering about what I'm doing. If you have any questions or help requests please post them here in this topic or on the Templot Club forum, and I will try to answer them. Or just to say that you are watching, so that I know I'm not talking to myself. More info in this topic on Templot Club: https://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=3779&forum_id=1 Here's the link to watch the broadcast stream: https://templot.com/companion/live_screen.php p.s. this is not using Google, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instazoomgram, or any other MegaCorporation harvesting your hat size. You don't need to register, sign in, give your email address or any information at all. It's running on a small UK-based streaming service, and displayed on the Templot web site. cheers, Martin. RMweb Gold SHMD Posted September 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2020 Very useful, thank you Martin. I liked the comment " there is always two ways of doing anything"! Very true. Kev.
RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted September 26, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2020 Thanks Kev. I got into a bit of a muddle there, sorry. I'm still learning this online process, I think I should be asking for advance notice of questions, so that I can have a bit of a think first. cheers, Martin.
gordon s
Hi Martin, just to let you know I have popped in. Apologies for the late arrival.... It says back soon and I can hear you typing away, so I guess everything is working OK. No immediate issues right now as ET has had to take a bit of a back seat, whilst my MiL moves in with us. Hope it all goes well.....
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted September 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2020 The demo you did was better than a slick "how to" video because it is an iterative process. You just don't always get the guesses right up front and things go wrong/don't work out further down the line. As I said, very useful. Kev.

RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted September 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 28, 2020 Many thanks all, for the positive feedback after Saturday's live Templot session. I'm keeping a recording of each session, for archive and record purposes, so in theory they could be posted after the event to make them permanently available. In practice it is not so simple. I'm recording them in 15-minute clips to keep file sizes within reason (each one is around 100MB). Saturday's session was over 4 hours, so I now have 17 such clips. To edit and combine them, removing interruptions and breaks (and also my various mistakes and mis-clicks ) would be a full day's work. But I have now uploaded a 16-minute raw clip from Saturday's session: https://flashbackconnect.com/Default.aspx?id=gfzzOIbS7eMGzZPTOLRm1A2 I have called it CLIP A. It stops dead in the middle of nowhere, so I need to make a follow-on clip B. But I haven't done it yet. Maybe later tonight. cheers, Martin.

Many thanks. I would be interested in some more comments on this. Recently I have made two very different styles of Templot screen videos: 1. a silent interactive stop-start video with lots of text-based information: https://flashbackconnect.com/Movie.aspx?id=pu2F-wveux5-EWGYuqPd3g2 2. a 15-minute rambling clip from my live-screen session on Saturday: https://flashbackconnect.com/Movie.aspx?id=30h3au1S5O6j0LbfPFi7sw2 Which style do you prefer? The next time someone posts a question for which I might make a video clip in reply, which style should it be? And would it be acceptable to reply simply: "Watch live tomorrow night and I will show you." ? Thanks for any comments. cheers, Martin.
down the sdjr
Both styles are really good. I prefer it with the voice over, makes following what you are doing easier. You sort of pre say what you are about to do. I used to record a lot of music when i was younger. A good tip is to lay of dairy products, mainly milk before recording, it clams your vocal chords up. Plenty of water does the trick. (it was mostly beer in my day). 1
Sheffield
Many thanks ofr all your efforts. I did find option 1 very helpful, and liked that format
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2020 I found the first "silent" video very good indeed. It was very well thought out. Quicker than the dabble session. ...but I also found the Saturday "dabble" session very useful too. The explanations, as you went along, were also as useful as to what was about to happen or if there were any choices available. Kev.
