aaron3820
Hi all, A few years ago I acquired a project loco off of someone which needed some work and has been in storage ever since. I have recently brought it back into the open to have a look at it and scope out the work needed. Amongst things such as needing new axles, a few wheels, new paint etc I’ve found that the retainers for the rods are of a differing type to those normally sold by Romford. The crankpins themselves are the normal type sold by Romford, but the retainer for the rods is one I’ve not seen elsewhere before. It is a shouldered piece in which the main raised section goes through the rods and rests against the wheel centre. The hole in the centre is smooth and not threaded. Hopefully the pictures attached show what I mean a bit more clearly. I need 10 of these shouldered pieces in order to get this loco back in service. Also, would anyone know where one could source 17mm 16 spoke Romford driving wheels from? Thanks! Carnforth
Pretty sure Mark describes these or something very similar as "de-luxe" crankpins.

Il Grifone
Being threaded shouldn't be a problem as they will be fixed to the crankpin. AFAIK Romford never did a 17mm 16 spoke wheels only an 18mm wheel* (I could be wrong - it wouldn't be the first time). Judging from the picture, it does seem the tyre and especially the flange are very fine, suggesting the wheel has been turned down. 18mm 16 spoke wheels are suitable for very few prototypes (the only one I can think of is the GWR 2721 class). I assume the model is a NSWGR D57 4-8-2 to H0 scale, which should have 17.5mm 15 spoke wheels, according to the photo here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_D57_class_locomotive#/media/File:NSWGR_Class_D57_Locomotive.jpg * Romford wheels date from the prehistoric era and could well have been designed for H0 scale (?). A surfeit of spokes was quite common back then however.

aaron3820
The kits were supplied from DJH to a local distributor so could well have been issued with custom wheels. The flanges and tyres are original, the wheels haven’t been modified. It’s a NSWGR D57 correct.
