Hi Jason,

Have you read the story behind how that happened?  If the OPC book on Southern wagons is to be believed then it is truly bonkers.  (According to the book the door on the original batch swung into the guard's seating area; rather than re-hang the doors to swing the opposite way they mirrored the body instead.)

Regards,

Alex.

It's the only one of the Southern Wagons books I haven't got.

One of the reasons why mine haven't been built.

As the guard would normally be the only person a) sat in that area or b) swinging the door into that area ( mutually exclusive actions ) the design's not completely bonkers ........... until a shunter or inspector or trainspotter barges in.

MoD one https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/modludgershall/e2d952023 with some plywood replating other side https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/modludgershall/e3ca1f328

and another https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/longmarston/e31471dbe

And the furthest north I think I recorded a SR pillbox was Millerhill https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/srbrakevan/ed0988f but then I was based in the home counties.

I think it's worth getting though, IIRC, it was the most expensive of the set (bought used online earlier this year).  I got it because I was going to build a few kits of ex-Sr stock, but ended up looking through the whole thing.

  • 1 month later...

Does anyone know whether an O gauge casting is available for the vacuum cylinders that were added to the WD varieties of the SR Pillbox Brake Van?

I have a Parkside kit that is going to be built as per one of the examples that operated at Longmoor. I've identified No.49022 as an example that kept both the sand boxes, and of course has the Vacuum Cylinders.

Whilst I've spent a few hours scouring the web for suitable cylinders, I'm not having any success - one of the issue is that I don't have any dimensions for the cylinders - can anyone assist?

Cheers,

Stephen
