Popular Post Grimleygrid Posted September 27, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted September 27, 2020 Following our announcement last week about our forthcoming HAA model and subsequent variants, we are now pleased to show some 3D renders of our CDA wagon design. The CDA is being tooled alongside the HAA and will be released at the same time. Photo courtesy Craig Munday CDA In the mid-1980s a plan was devised to replace the ageing fleet of vacuum braked wagons used for the Cornish china clay traffic. A replacement wagon type was sought and following the success of the HAA design for coal traffic it was decided to trial a converted HAA wagon for use with china clay. The trial wagon was re-coded to CDA and fitted with a roller sheet cover. An order was placed for a fleet of 124 new wagons which were to be built at Doncaster. The design was essentially the same as the HAA except for the roller sheet cover and ventilators at each end to aid discharge without the need to open the cover. A further 14 wagons were converted from HAA's to increase the fleet and also re-coded CDA. Some of these wagons are still in service today, as can be seen by the photo below. I used to see them up-close and personal almost every day of the week, and to my untutored eye those renders appear to have very much captured the look of the real thing. Here are a couple of livery images of the English China Clays Ltd livery which will no doubt prove to be a popular choice for modellers. Expected lack of popularity vs the coal and ECC variants? And I presume the singles from KMS and Trains4U will be different numbers given they are said to be exclusive on the forms? Neither are a massive issue to me as I expect to purchase a small selection of each rather than a big rake as they aren't really in region for me but I like them but was intrigued. Why don't you both sell one unnumbered instead of just one with a number and leave everyone to buy as much as they like so they can then apply their own running numbers post sale, or would that not work?...just spit balling.
