Damo666
Are these a rebranded version of some DCC Concepts decoders?

RMweb Gold JohnR Posted October 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2020 Will be interesting to see the "brown-out" protection in operation...

I’ve reviewed the Zen black decoders which have the same brown out protection here: I tried one in a Dapol ex L&Y pug and it ran pretty well. Normally I only ever run these locos with a stay alive. 2 1
El Pollo
I got myself one of these yesterday and it does seems to share roughly the same set of CVs as listed here: https://www.dccconcepts.com/manual/basic-cv-settings-for-zen-decoders/ Some of the default values differ though. CV 8 (Manufacturer) = 36 (DCCconcepts) CV 7 (Version) = 9 I don't have any Zen decoders, so I don't know if this is a version number unique to the Rails branded decoder. Does anyone know if an official list of CVs has been published? I couldn't spot anything on Rails' site and there's no description within the packaging. banburysaint
Which CV should be changed to support a coreless motor and to what value please. I have read the release notes but it doesn't provide details. Is it a case of switching off the back EMF? Many thanks for any advice you have. I emailed DCC concepts who advised that there is no motor map for coreless motors. I changed to a Lenz decoder which has this facility and it made the world of difference

Butler Henderson
Having now got one CV66 which looking at the DCC zen manual is to be set to 1 for coreless motors does exist which if the relevant circuitry is absence you would not expect to exist.
