Failed dcc sound.

Can anyone give me advise on when running my Bachmann sound Class 47 the sound just disappeared,  I cannot find any reason why this has happened. I have took the body off, all wires appear intact, no signs of failure on the PC's, thanks for any help given. Dave.

Thanks Richard, yes eveything else works fine, i will do a factory reset and see what happens but i think the decoder has blown, didnt want to go to the expense of a new decoder but thats what a may have to do. Thanks again for your reply. Dave.

It really is worth trying a different speaker before you splash out on a replacement decoder. I've had a speaker fail on me so do try that.

Once had a class 25 that 'lost its voice' 

Sent it somewhere to try a reblow and lo and behold , it got its voice back .

If someone cannot reblow it   they will usually only charge you return postage .

I've had two Loksound 3.5 sound decoders fail: the sound disappeared but the chips still functioned as decoders.  I returned one to Howes where I had bought it and was told the amplifier had failed and that I would have to buy a new one (it was out of warranty).  The other was a Bachmann Deltic with a factory fitted sound decoder, again out of warranty - I need to check the wiring first but might try a "reblowing" service as suggested above.

If the amplifier has failed the chip will never produce sound no matter how many reblows you try, the other most likely issue is as Ray H said is a faulty speaker I have had the coil go open circuit on speakers before and produce zero sound.....if you have a multimeter you can easily check for this. you should see 100, 8, or 4 ohms across the speaker terminals (with the decoder disconnected).
